The following comments were submitted by our customers when asked to provide feedback on our service. I am only providing this feedback because I keep getting emails to do so. I was going to let it go and move on. I had 3 issues with Dogtopia of Latham that have caused them to lose me and my recommendation.
1) I spoke with Jason, the owner, by phone a day or 2 prior to our week-long vacation to confirm what my cost would be. After doing some calculations, he quoted me a price that sounded lower than I expected. I asked him if he was sure because it sounded low, and he assured me it was correct. Upon pick-up, I was quoted $150- $160 higher than what I was expecting. Jason happened to be there, which leads to problem #2.
2) The associate went to get him b/c of the charge discrepancy, and he stormed through the door ready to fight. He continued to berate me, and generally behave in an incredibly rude and unprofessional manner. He admitted recalling our conversation, and even that he had made an error on the quote, but would not make good on the quoted price. He made excuses about how busy he was that day, as if that was my issue. He passively aggressively told me that I had taught him something and that he would never again give a quote to a customer over the phone (sorry to anyone who is on the short end of this from now on). He threw his hands up and said “So what do you want to pay?” as if I was trying to rip him off. I would have been fine with a higher price if that is what I had been quoted and budgeted for. The misquote was his mistake, and as the owner he should have shown humility, charged what he quoted, and let me know how pricing worked clearly from that point forward. There was more to this, but I will leave it here and say that I walked out in tears.
3) I sent my Yorkie with half of a bin of food that would usually take him at least a couple of weeks to finish. 2 days into our vacation, I received a call from an associate that my dog was not really eating, and we worked out a plan to help him eat more, which reportedly worked. That is fine, no issue there. The phone call came at night, leaving 4 full days left for him to eat while in their care. Imagine my shock when I arrived for pick-up to an empty food bin. How did this little dog who didn’t want to eat go through half a bin in 4 days? Mysterious to me. When I got there, I exclaimed in surprise when I opened it “Oh, he ate all of it?” to no response from the associate.
I never submit negative reviews. You figure live and learn. I write great ones when I have received excellent service. This is one of the worst experiences I have ever had with a business. Again, my feedback has been sought a couple of times now which is why I wrote this review.
I wish Dogtopia of Latham no ill will. I simply hope that Jason reflects on what happened and makes some changes in the way he treats people and handles his own mistakes. A smidge of humility goes a long way.
Seamless visit. Handled my anxious dog with ease. Great visit. We will be back again and again.

We absolutely love Dogtopia! Rollo loves his staff team and all his playmates and Pops is happy to know that he absolutely loves his boarding time there while away. We wish there was a Dogtopia in Stafford so that we could use the Daycare during the work week. Thank you so much for a wonderful, friendly and considerate staff - we love you guys!!!

This was the worst experience I’ve ever had with leaving my dog somewhere. My dog came back sick and distressed—he didn’t go potty or a day he was there, and the place was so poorly kept that there was dog urine left right in the middle of the room. No wonder my dog couldn’t relieve himself properly. He ended up with diarrhea and vomiting through the night and into the next day. I will never return and absolutely do not recommend this place to anyone.

I love the staff! They treat my pup as if he was their own. Every morning when I drop Verlie off, they greet him by name and with the biggest smile. He loves going to Dogtopia on 8th Ave!

I left my dog's food with instructions for 3 days and one day after drop my dog off, somebody icall me to say that my dog no longer has food and that if I authorize you to give him the food from there with an extra charge. I had no other options than to accept that but additionally when I picked him up and we arrived to the house, he had not eaten because I had to give him. I don't know if they left my dog holding back hunger nor did I know what they did with the food and treats I left him. I loved Dogtopia, but I don't think I'll come back.
Tulsi enjoys going to Dogtopia. She works out all her puppy energy. The staff is so attentive. I'm so happy my neighbor recommended you.
My pup is always excited to stay at Dogtopia. Everyone is super friendly and seem to really care about the dogs in their care. The staff is wonderful!
Penny loves going and looks forward to seeing her caregivers when we get there. It makes me feel good about leaving her there while I go away for a week because I know she will have a good time with people that care about her.
The only complaint I have is about the new website. When a date is confirmed part of the message says “ America/Toronto “. We are not part of the US and never will be.

The entire staff is pleasant and helpful. They offer many services that I currently make use of for my dog - daycare, boarding, and grooming. I feel that my dog is well taken care of when she's at Dogtopia in Downers Grove.
