I would specifically tie my recommendation to Matt at Bicycle Habitat. He is clearly a stand-out employee there based on his knowledge and willingness to help and spend time with customers. Our first time in, I was looking to upgrade my road cycling shoes in prep for a race. It was a relatively quiet day in the store and we were fortunate enough to have landed with Matt. He blew my husband and me away with the way he tackled the shoe fitting and cleat placement....so much that my husband, who wasn't originally planning to upgrade his shoes/pedals, decided to as well. We went back in this past weekend with our bikes, so they could change the pedals...and Matt reviewed our whole set-up, very expertly making minor adjustments with seat placement, brake reach, etc. He explained everything along the way and it all made perfect sense as to why it would yield a more comfortable, efficient ride. It was much busier the 2nd visit, but it was clear that he was the more experienced employee (helping others or chiming in on other sales/questions). He did a great job jockeying between customers.
I’m new to cycling and Matt was extremely helpful getting me setup. Very easy experience, good cycling intel, and friendly customer service.
The team at Bicycle Habitat is very professional. If you purchase a bike from the shop, a free upgrade will be included in the purchase, which I did in my first year. I've upgraded to the $185 package, each Spring, where they take the chains off, oil everything, and make the bike brand new. It's an investment to make the most of my bike purchase.

Very flexible guys, I’m based in Australia and purchased a kids bike for my niece, she lives in NY. It turns out that the one I bought wasn’t the right one for her so they accommodated to her needs and recommended another one, no problem.

Best bike shop in NYC
The customer service was very good from the beginning when I called to talk about a bike, through when it was ordered, delivered and set up and then the in-store service where the bike was fitted and various things described to me. Elvis, my sales representative, was very friendly, patient and helpful. I would highly recommend the shop.

The staff — particularly Chad and Noah — are SO friendly, helpful, and patient. I’m not a particularly savvy biker, but my kids love it, so when I’ve come in looking for bikes for them, they are so helpful guiding me towards the right bike or accessory for my child, and they have enthusiasm, too, that my kids pick up on. Plus, I LOVE the bike trade-in program!
Also, a few weeks ago, a got a used bike from Bicycle Habitat for my older son. A week later, it was stolen, and the first place I called was the shop so that they could keep an eye out for it. They gently told me it was unlikely to ever make its way back to the shop, which I knew, but patiently took down my info and details on the bike. Well, a kind neighbor found the bike in a dumpster a few days ago, saw the Bicycle Habitat sticker on it and brought it back to the shop in case someone was missing it. A staffer called me to let me know it was found and I cried I was so happy! My kid’s faith in humanity was restored, our love for the shop even deeper, and our gratitude immense. Thank you thank you!
