We've been very happy sending our dog to Dogtopia! We feel our pup is very safe and he absolutely loves going each week. The only reason I gave a 9 and not 10 is lack of an outdoor space.
There re several things that have impressed me with the Olathe Dogtopia. We went and looked at other places to board our dog. The first thing I noticed when we made an unannounced visit was there was no odor when you walked in the door. The rooms were clean, while not sound proof, the dogs barking was barely heard in the lobby. I initially felt the 3 days in daycare prior to boarding was excessive, however I am glad this is their practice. Those days gave my pup time to adjust and time for staff to learn the dog’s behaviors. They place dogs in groups by temperament, activity level and other needs. Each dog is throughly vetted to ensure a good fit. They know your dogs name and I have never seen a dog not wanting to go to daycare. They run to the staff person. They watch the dogs during for changes such as anxiety or being overwhelmed during each visit. If the dog is anxious they remove the dog from the play group and determine if they can go in a less active group or if they need a time out. Like most dog parents we worry when we leave them…I do not have any concerns leaving my pup, they love him and he loves them. Best place ever!
I have loved the honest chats on the phone with suggestions on membership, etc. You also know my dog after only a few weeks and this is important to me. We love your staff! So kind and helpful.
We have been using Dogtopia for over 10 years and loved sending our dog(s) there. Within the past 1-2 years, the quality service at Dogtopia has gone significantly downhill. During recent trips to Dogtopia to pick up my dog, I've smelled very strong urine in the lobby, noticed a whole in the wall that has not been repaired and seen staff that are either not properly trained or maybe don't care. On my most recent visit, I witnessed a staff member bring the wrong dog to a patron when they were picking up. Dogtopia used to provide visit cards after each boarding session, these went away for a time, came back for one stay and are gone again. My biggest complaint, however is with grooming. For the past three visits Dogtopia has absolutely failed when it comes to dog grooming. Three visits ago, we requested our dog be bathed and brushed out (extended brush out), we scheduled a pick up time of 5 p.m., when my husband arrived at 4:50, they told him that she had not been bathed that she was scheduled for a bath at 5 p.m. Why would you schedule a bath for the time someone said they were going to pick-up? I reached out to the dog advocate or whatever the individual is called at Dogtopia. She was apologetic, refunded my money and stated that the next time our dog came, she would receive a bath and brush out on the house. The next time we took our dog to Dogtopia, we provided them with the time we would pick up as 4 p.m., I intentionally told them 4 p.m. knowing that I would pick up closer to 5, in order to make sure they were done with the grooming. When we arrived around 5, they had bathed our dog, but had not brushed her out. Because our dog is a husky, it is VERY apparent when she has or has not been brushed. You could tell that they took a brush and just started to brush her as there was a streak down her one side where a brush had gone once removing hair, but all the hair around it remained. Think about it as though you were shoveling a walkway and just started, it would be very apparent where you had shoveled. That's what it looked like on our dog. While we had not paid for this service because of the previous visit and the utter failure at grooming, I pointed it out, but didn't make a huge deal of the issue. I did, however write back (email) to the pet advocate to comment on this and provided a photo so they could see what I was talking about and I did not even receive a response to my email. We boarded my dog there again this past weekend and I asked for an extended brush out. I made a big deal about the fact that this had not been done properly at the last two visits and that I really wanted to ensure she had been brushed out when I picked her up or I would not pay for the brush out. I asked that she be ready by 4 p.m. and that I would pick up sometime between 4 and 5. When I arrived around 4:50 again, I asked if she was brushed out. I was told, "yes, I think so." Then when they went to get her, they did not get her from the grooming area, but I was okay with that, had she been brushed. When they brought her to me, it was very apparent she had not been brushed out. I told the person at the front counter that she had not been brushed out and I was not going to pay for the extended brush out. The employee seemed a little flustered by this and went into the system. She told me that she didn't see it in the system that she was supposed to be brushed out, so I pulled up my e-receipt and saw that I had been charged for the brush out. I told her that I wanted to be reimbursed for the brush out since it clearly was not done. Then she said, "oh, it was done, it just looks a little flat in the front because she was laying down." I pointed out that it was not flat in the front, I reached down and was able to use my hand to remove a huge tuft of hair from my husky and showed her stating that you would not be able to do that if she'd received an extended brush out. I pointed out many tufts along her side and her chest where her hair was not laying flat because she desperately needed to be brushed. The employee then said, "okay, I don't want you to have to wait, but my manager needs to override the refund of the brush out." She told me she would call me as soon as it was completed. Here we are two days later and I neither received a refund for the brush out, no did I receive a call so in effect, Dogtopia stole from me and their employees are dishonest. Unfortunately, I need to board my dog again for a week this time in less than a week - I reached out to the Dogtopia in Manassas knowing that both the Gainesville and Manassas offices were owned by the same person until they went under corporate management to see if I could board my dog there in the hopes that service might be better, but not only can they not see the vet records, etc. at the Gainesville office, but they also stated she would have to go back through another evaluation since she has not been to the Manassas office in the past several years since the Gainesville office opened. What's the point of being under Corporate management if the offices cannot share information on dogs?
Friendliness of the staff and kindly listening to and answering our many questions. This helped put us a ease.
The prices are increasing but the staff is decreasing. The increasing instances of canine cough increase the risk of illness and pet bills. Also, seeing more dog humping; shouldn’t all pets be neutered/spayed- including staff pets?
My dogs have been going weekly for daycare for the past year. It's a safe and fun place. They get excited to go Monday mornings. The have become like family.
Great people, personable service and great prices! Everyone is so nice and great with my pup, highly recommend!

The caregivers at Dogtopia Hurstbourne Lane are outstanding! Everyone seems to know me and my best friend by name. They are great about sharing what took place during the visit - and they definitely saw my pup as the behavior fits her to a T. My baby does not want to leave! A handler walks to the exit for an assist-LOL. Wish I could bring her more often as the socializing is such a benefit. Never easy to leave my precious girl but Dogtopia’s staff and facility are the best and she LOVES IT. Who could ask for more??
My pup has been sick with diarrhea and lethargic for two days since picking him up. When I called to ask how long the dog had diarrhea they said, "there were no reports of diarrhea". I had a feeling that he was sick when I picked him up from your facility, because there was poop smear on his bed. This means he was sick inside of his suite and nobody reported it. I would have recommended not to give him food toppers. Or maybe have a local friend pick him up early. I hope he's better soon...
I'm sad that there is really no opportunity for outside time for pups who are boarding. Was very pleased with communication while we were gone and that you had tricks up your sleeve to get her to eat. She did not lose any weight while there, which is kind of a miracle! Yay! She did, however, come home with kennel cough. Seems mild thus far, but we're keeping an eye on it.
Everyone at Dogtopia gets to know our dogs. Our anxious dog is happy to be there.

I thought the site was just saying your dog will be tired when returned to you but they are not kidding. My dog likes to bark at other dogs and just kinda bark in general but she’s making friends when we take her here and when I pick her up she is asleep almost instantly
