I had a great experience at General RV from start to nearly finish, and nearly everyone I dealt with earns a solid 5 stars from me.
My sales person, Matt, was outstanding and supportive throughout the process of buying my first camper. He was never pushy and always focused on my needs and what I wanted. He went above and beyond to help me find the perfect camper and land on a Last name removed that worked with my budget.
The staff on the floor - Andrea and Carlos - were professional, friendly, and helpful every step of the process, keeping me informed as things moved along with the walk-through and prep work. Andrea was especially attentive, even through she was short staffed and covering lots of stations, she still kept me completely informed and was so gracious and friendly.
The operations manger, Dawson, spoke with me personally to check on my experience and solicit honest feedback about my interactions with his team and the dealership. He was down to earth, professional, and sincerely cared about his customers having a positive experience. I was impressed with him taking the initiative to get to know me and make a connection.
The only sour point for me, came during signing papers with the business manager. He was friendly at first, making lots of small talk, but his attitude and treatment of me changed drastically when I kept saying “no” to buying the extended warranty. He used hard sales tactics, fear, intimidation and bullying to try and pressure me or guilt me into buying the warranty. There were several comments he made that shocked me, which I won’t share here. It was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with a sales person. It left me feeling so uncomfortable and upset I nearly got up and walked out on the deal. Perhaps because I was a female on my own he thought he could bully me into making the purchase. I don’t think he wouldn’t have treated a man in that way. Once he accepted that I was not going to buy it, his tone became short and irritable, and he snatched the signed papers away from me, no longer made eye contact or looked at me, and barely spoke to me. He said a forced “congratulations” as I signed the last paper and I left his office.
It was a very unfortunate ending to what had otherwise been a very positive experience up to that point. It left me with a pretty rotten feeling right after making a huge purchase, and it took me a few days to get over the emotional yuck from that interaction. Looking back, I should have excused myself and asked the operations manager or some other male to come into the room while I finished signing. I can definitely recommend this dealership and my sales person, but sadly, I would have to encourage any single female to make sure they have a male present when they go to sign papers with the business manager.
