I spent a couple of hours at your store on Wednesday. Kate M listened to what I thought I wanted. She pointed out a bike I hadn't known about. I rode it: roughly a 5mi ride around Prospect Park, long enough to get a good feel for what the bike is like. I talked with Kate about it. She made another recommendation. I rode that one also. This comparison was very useful: it showed me that there were at least 2 things about the second bike that I didn't like.
We arranged for me to come in again on Friday to try the bike I had originally gone in wanting. Kate wasn't there, so I worked with Liz. I tried out that bike and talked it over with Liz. In the end, Kate's first choice was the right one for me. Liz helped me figure out all the little bits and pieces that I would need.
The experience was great. Kate and Liz could spend the time I wanted talking about the bikes. They're knowledgeable and sensible. The store policy for trial rides is phenomenal. I felt comfortable and unpressured. The store policies for purchases are also terrific: if for whatever reason I don't like this bike, and I keep it in like-new condition, I can exchange it within 30 days, or just return it.

always has what i'm looking for; helpful and welcoming staff--bike shops always run the risk of having a bad vibe especially if you aren't a bike expert, but i've always been so impressed with how willing staff is to answer questions and offer lots of options to meet my needs
I just find your mechanics always helpful. I've been to the shop several times and I haven't had a bad experience. Also, took my bike out for a ride today and it was much smoother than when I brought it in

I didn't even have to say a word - the kindest staff member came right over to help us choose the right size helmet for my growing children. Took time and careful consideration, and found the best choice - my son has been wearing his new helmet around like an accessory, he loves it!
We organised a 24hr bike hire with Bicycle Habitat who were very attentive and ensured we had the correct fit and safety equipment (helmet & lights) along with a lock and map.

I recently ran into a major issue with my Sondors LX e-bike, and since the company is no longer around for servicing, I had to figure things out on my own. After searching through countless forums, I kept seeing the same frustrating answer: I’d either need to rebuild the wheel with a new hub and freehub body or replace the entire wheel—both extremely expensive options, especially for a fat-tire bike with 4.9" tires.
I checked all over Westchester, NY, with no luck. Just when I was running out of options, I found Bicycle Habitat in Soho. It was a bit of a drive from Westchester, but at 35 minutes on the a weekend evening but it was worth a shot.
From my first phone call with Matt, I could tell he knew his stuff. He understood the parts involved and went over all possible fixes before jumping to a full wheel replacement. That was great to hear, especially after seeing how difficult others found this repair.
I took the trip down, hoping this would finally be the solution. On the second day, I got a call from Matt. He and their skilled mechanic Anthony had found a freehub body that worked with my existing rim, saving me a ton of money and, more importantly, keeping my bike running for years to come. That was my biggest concern since I use this bike daily to get to the train station and around town.
Not only did they fix my freehub issue, but they also caught a manufacturer defect that caused the cassette to rub against the rim. Their passion and dedication to their craft made all the difference.
This is now my go-to bike shop, and I can't thank Matt and Anthony enough for their expertise and commitment to getting me back on the road. If you need real bike mechanics who actually care, I highly recommend Bicycle Habitat in Soho.
Your products are high quality I live in the neighborhood and you're very convenient your service is pretty good. The staff is very polite overall you guys are a pretty good bike shop. I have been going to Bicycle Habitat since there was in SoHo
