Atmosphere
Fix machines in a timely fashion. Overall cleanliness around machines and weights
There is a noticeable need of some facility and equipment maintenance/repair. I and others have experienced locker room theft recently. The staff is always pleasant.
Old equipment, less than desirable clientele, small basketball court, broken water fountains. The place is trash
Updates needed! Locker rooms are a disaster - carpet has been there for years. Air conditioning is bad! Parking lot is a mess - needs redone.
Everything I need is there. Continues to be a bit run-down with tiles missing in the bathrooms, steam room, pool area, etc. equipment being broken for months it seems (squat rack missing the ends to the weight bar for instance). I have a good price, and my company reimburses me, so I’m more than willing to deal with some drawbacks.
With Lenexa city center so close to Genesis, that’s probably where I’d send folks all else being equal, but Genesis works fine for me
This isn’t the first time i’ve been at a gym that Genesis bought, so i wasn’t surprised when the quality of service plummeted. I’ve not been to a Genesis where the managers keep their employees in check and ensure good customer service. The front desk employees don’t welcome guests in or have any urgency to get things done. they rarely have answers to questions about Genesis. All the Genesis i’ve been to done keep their facilities clean or update equipment. Small things like new bands, bar pads, etc. are what enhance a gym experience. they act like there’s no money to replace these low dollar items when we know Genesis is a huge and wealthy company. Planet Fitness has better customer service.
Hairdryers and kleenex in the locker rooms. Paint indoor pool area. Wash windows more often.
Shower curtains or doors. When there is aqua classes have some towels. Pool equipment
( noodles and weights) need to be replaced. The gym still needs cleaning after construction.
The gym is dirty and many things need repaired.
I have not been going to this location for over 19 month ago
The friendly staff and their willingness to help!
The shower, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi area is not clean and smells bad. The jacuzzi has not been operating for almost 3 months now and nobody seems to know when, or if, it will be fixed.
Place doesn’t seem to be very clean-especially the restrooms. Hot tub is a joke-it’s disgusting and very few of the jets even work. Did I mention it’s not even hot…? Steam room is always broke. And rarely clean.
Half the treadmills sound horrible. The other half so not even work.
The hours of operation that are posted don’t match the hours of the club. Nothing worse then being in the middle of a workout or shower and having the lights go off because the place is closing.
There are some good points to the gym-it’s hard to focus on those when what’s visible is all the negative.
I love the new treadmills with the bounce and the fans. excellent addition.
1. It would be great if Pilates were offered at South.
2. More classes especially morning. Seems like they often go at 6 and then not again till 9. 7 and 8:00 a.m. classes are good for working members.
Hot tub needs updating - mens towels are often empty and there’s never any on the tennis courts.
3. Indoor Tennis courts need updating so we could host tournaments that make more money for the club.
4. Outdoor courts need resurfacing.
5. Better member portal so you can see what exactly you’re signed up for, what lessons or packages you have left and when the others were used. Currently the user interface for members is not very good and doesn’t make it easy or obvious where to see your information and when it is there, it’s not broken down with useful granularity (e.g. signed up for tennis drill and it just says the amount and date paid which should be on statements but it doesn’t say which drill - what day and time and with what instructor. Your platform would be vastly improved with more meta data fields. Also it would be great if the tennis information (such as IHL registration) could either be directly integrated into the system or at least have a crosswalk that at least points to each other so you aren’t always looking in different places for member information:
Club needs a remodel and things fixed when broken. Toilets out of order.
I went to the BA location when it was first built as a Gold's Gym probably 18 or more years ago and it still has the same colors inside, same equipment same carpet and lockers in the dressing room. And the Woodland Hills mall location is even worse. It's definitely in need of a remodel. The locker room stinks and is so old run down.
Fix equipment quicker when it breaks.
Stop letting people leave weights racked. Enforce some rules so the gym doesn't look do unattended.
Put more money into replacing broken/bent free weights instead of treadmills. You charge me an extra $40 once a year put it towards stuff I actually use.
Clean the sauna daily.
Very convenient for me.
It’s a constant scam to get more money for old equipment and similar locations. If we had another gym closer to our home we would for sure switch.
Nothing changed last time I mentioned something so not going to spend time with a long explanation. Just looking for my 25 points that doesn’t buy me anything lol.
Great Personal Trainers, varied assortment of equipment, good atmosphere.
I’ve been a member since the gym was Prairie Life. Honestly, since Genesis has taken over. the gym has become unkempt. Weights laying around, wipe-down towel baskets and disinfectant bottles almost empty.
Secondly, I feel the gym has a very “corporate “ attitude towards members. We’re just numbers unlike before where employees knew my name.
Also very rigid towards military members and their complex (and often unknown) deployments.
It’s still ok, but it’s definitely taken a downward turn.
Just my two cents.
The doors on the lockers in the mens locker room have broken/missing hinges, locks are broken, or the shelves are broken/missing.
The steam room is in need of a major rebuild. The last two visits the steam hasn’t even been working and there is so many tiles broken/missing that make it unsightly and it could use a good cleaning.
The carpet in the mens locker room could also use a good cleaning, doubt that it’s been done since Genesis bought the club from Health Ridge.
Health Ridge never let the place get like this and I don’t see how you can call this place a “premier” facility with it in such poor shape.
There are multiple machines on the floor that have “out of order” signs and have for quite some time.
Modernized equipment. There are lots of new login type, help you get healthier stations available. Look at the Y. Also offer more dietary help.
It's nothing that Genesis has done and, for me, probably nothing that even can be done.
Cass street has just ALWAYS been a super busy location. Every single time I've stepped foot in there it's packed. The parking lot is always packed. It's just way too busy for me.
Also, the pool is smaller than other locations.
I just much prefer the less people packed facilities and the larger pools of other facilities.
My main reason for joining Genesis, is the pool. 2nd main reason is the 24 hour locations.
I was a carryover from 24hour fitness.
All of that together makes Tara Plaza my favorite location. I drive from all the way across Omaha in any weather to go to Tara Plaza...mostly after 10pm.
I only mention Cass street to anyone who doesn't mind a ton of people around always.
Actually, I was once a member of this other gym for a bit. They have these full body massage chairs that were amazing...in lieu of a pool, those were acceptable.
It would be awesome if Genesis had those. Maybe put a few in a quiet corner. That's the dream anyway.

Mens locker room
Carpet should be replaced or perhaps removed entirely. Shower and toilet area is prone to flooding sometimes.
Cardio equipment room doesn’t seem to have adequate HVAC air movement. It gets extremely muggy on warm days.
The sauna is continuously out of service and has been for a considerable amount of time. There has also been no updating or expansion to keep up with other facilities.

Very well cared for , the pool is kept in good shape also it is a salt water pool switch is the best in the Midwest in my opinion!!!
