Group fitness classes! Excellent instructors, trainers and staff!

Genesis is more worried about making money than keeping the members happy. There's always stuff that's broken. The first toilet in the women's room has been leaking at the base when you flush it for well over a year. I've given up on trying to get someone to do anything about it. Let's buy up all the funds in the city, but then not absurdly take care of them. It's a joke and Andy Zerger is the only reason I've maintained my membership.
Overall, the Genesis Health Clubs in KC have large deviations in cleanliness and staff friendliness. The 103rd gym is very unclean, and some of the staff is very unfriendly. The Ward Parkway gym staff can also be extremely rude. The staff seem to be annoyed that they are at work, and don't smile or want to help with anything. The Merriam gym is the most clean and friendly.
Repair things more quickly
It is still a very dirty place! Since it was Prairie Life. Went into the lap pool outside and the water was clearly dirty. The woman's bathroom/changing area FILTHY, there is still mold/rust, dirty vents, the changing room still had original old ripped chairs, the rug doesn't look like it has been cleaned. Went to the hot tub by the pool, light burned out, and a crap full of sand/dirt on the bottom. Children UNDER five swimming under the water, like what the heck....that is why I will be canceling my family membership, when I can! And you are charging for cups to get a drink? Seriously? Nothing has changed, still an over priced dump. Really thought you were going to fix this place up. I was so excited and bought my kids family memberships for their family, CASH! And they won't go because its so dirty.
Please keep up with the cleaning...
The floors, hall, indoor pool deck, fitness rooms!
So disappointed as we have been members for a long time!
Stay open later on weekends, change tanning bulbs more often, make sure sauna and steam room work properly, get a temperature monitor for sauna and hot tub
No routine maintenance being done. Need to hire full time PROFESSIONAL maintenance people, not some random person who may or may not (usually not) have the skills to maintain a gym that used to be clean, well maintained, all equipment functioning (or repaired within 2-3 days compared to 2-3 weeks!). Cannot shut door from ladies shower to ladies dressing room due to.. ??.. inadequate heating/cooling system?... or ?? Very annoying to get out of shower and have people in the locker room staring at you through the mirrors. Pools are not kept clean, hot tub intermittently closed.
Regular Club personnel are EXTREMELY polite, well trained or, when new, eager to be trained.
This Club is run like a BUSINESS FOR PROFIT - profit would be greater if the club were run like it was when personally owned and the owner actually CARED, instead of corporate owned & only interested in profit.
Cleanliness and friendliness
My husband and I joined when we were engaged, set to be married 6 months later but they would not give us a family membership because the risk of us separating was too great. We were told after we were married we had to bring in our marriage certificate to prove it. We spoke with another married couple who go to Genesis and they never had to prove they were married with a marriage certificate. At this time we offered to show them our joint bank account statements, our taxes that were filed as joint, and utility bills that are in both names. But they said no, we had to bring them a marriage certificate so as a result we both had to get individual accounts.
Then we were told we were married they would merge the memberships into a family one (after we show the marriage certificate). When the time came to merge we were charged for cancelling our individual memberships to merge into a family membership. We were not we would be charged 6 months later. A little clarity would have been nice.
Additionally, we convinced two separate friends to join Genesis after we joined. They both signed up with their own significant others and got family memberships. Neither was engaged and one couple didn't even live in the same town. Meanwhile we had to bring in a marriage certificate to prove we were married and our friends who were just dating their significant others were able to sign up under a family membership.
Not sure if its a favoritism policy or what but we were frustrated with the inconsistency with whoever establishes the accounts. It seems that it's more about how the manager is feeling in the moment and less about the club member. While we really like the facilities and layout the disappointing experience is what makes us wary to recommend others to sign up.
When things break (AC, steam room, sinks etc) there is no communication to members acknowledging these occurrences and discussing general ETA’s ok completion.
Am told owner of Genesis and commercial real estate co can’t agree on who needs to fix the steam room in the men’s locker room so it has remained out if order for months.
I emailed corp and specifically your marketing director and got no response.
Equipment, staff, people, customer service, and overall friendliness.
Great friendly staff & the facility is well maintained
All of the group exercise instructors are very friendly and I like the variety of classes offered.
No curtain in the shower room.
Plenty of equipment even if it is packed.
I've said it before, the club...especially the men's locker room and showers...is not kept up. And, it has nothing to do with the people there in the morning. I have a question...when are you going to redo the club and can you do it without shutting it down like you did on 84th St.?
I would love more shade at the pool. I do appreciate they did add some umbrella this summer but they are not nice quality. I hope next summer the fix the broken umbrella and add some more. That would be amazing!!! Thank you for asking our opinion:)
Front desk staff is never friendly or welcoming expect for a couple of individuals. Facility cleanliness has decreased drastically. Movement of some equipment around the gym has caused it to be less functional and frustrating.
The gym is cluttered—plates everywhere. I racked machines, tattered attachments for cables. For the price of this membership the gym was not impressive.
Pool, whirlpool, steamroom, sauna in that order!
The workout area has everything I need to get a great workout.
The classes and the outdoor pool at 84th and Q.
it's nice, it's pretty, but it's not worth the upcharge
Better amenities (towels are frequently not available) and overall cleanliness
Repaint pool and walls. Replace HVAC on pool ceiling. Get jacuzzi working.
Friendly staff, good equipment
I like that the people working there know my name. I also like that it's the same people that have been there, not a revolving door as far as employees are concerned.
If I was able to bring a buddy without the cost being so much per visit, I’d definitely give a higher rating.
