I have enjoyed my time at Genesis. My only complaint would be the location of the benches and one machine. The benches close to the dumbbells could be moveable. They might have to be bolted to the ground for safety, but it would create more space for people if they were able to be moved. I always see people way to close to one of the smith machine. It disrupts the workout for both parties. The assisted pull up machine is too close to the leg press. If someone else is using it, I have to be mindful of stepping down in between sets.
The staff are amazing, but closing at 6 on the weekends SUCKS and makes it so that the gym is busier all day as a result. I like this gym and will keep my membership, but it’s pretty expensive for what you get (no sauna, no pool, usually very busy for anyone with a 8-5 job, class offerings for Miramont North are especially slim compared to the other Miramont locations, etc.) but there are so few good gym options in foco so I don’t have much of a choice.
Cost is higher than most gyms Make sure all equipment is working
Machines are having out of service signs on them for what seems like a long time and occurs often. The women's whirlpool is out of order every month, the sauna is out of order, the suit dryer is out of order and the list grows. Swim club takes 4 lanes every Tuesday and Thursday night at the same time swim lessons reserve 2-3 lanes. That leaves no lanes for anyone else. The swim club gear is hard to walk around. Each swimmer has a bag, board, and other gear at the end of the lane. Could they not switch to the end of the pool by the whirlpool? That would make it easier to walk between the pool and the chairs by the glass wall to get to the door. After work is always a busy time for the lap swimmers at the pool before you reduce lanes and then you have families that want to use the pool to "swim". Demand for the pool is greater then the pool can handle.
The only place that I would recommend
The back bathrooms by the swimming pool indoors don't have ventilation isn't that code? They need it. They also need to be stocked with towels to go in there a couple times a week and there's never any towels. Thank you for getting new tennis nets that was noticed. Please think about organizing more social events for gym members.
Great classes, good variety and absolutely fantastic instructors.
Everything
Clean atmosphere. Plenty of equipment.
Everything! Lots of cardio workouts to choose from, multiple weight machines and free weights. Best of all, friendly, helpful staff!
friendly desk, like variety of classes,
The building and a lot of the equipment are in terrible condition. The roof leaks every time it rains, and I'm sure there is black mold growing in the sheetrock and carpet. Doing some quality repairs around there would be nice to see.
Monthly cost and lockers
Was expected to pay cash to another genesis facility with membership card. This wasn’t explained in nor mentioned in the contracting phase. Very disappointed.
I like the hours that it is available and they have showers with amenities if I come over lunch. I like the selection of equipment and Dakota and Cody are really good trainers.
Say hello to customers when they walk in
Remodel the inside to be more modern and up to date, provide body lotion and deodorant spray like LS East and offer better evening class schedule.
Especially since Via Christi provides physical therapy services in the building, it is unfathomable to me that there is no push button entry at the front door. I cannot imagine what it would be like for someone with a disability to park in a designated stall, then walk or roll up the ramp to the front door, only to have to wait for someone coming or leaving the building to let me in. I get that many ADA regs don’t apply to a private gym, but this is nuts.
Had I wanted to do rehab at the Genesis pool following my back surgery 5 years ago, I would have been unable to open either set of doors by myself. They’re just too heavy.
I don’t know the fiscal status of the Manhattan facility, but have heard comments from staff and members alike, that “all they’re concerned about is money” and that’s why, for example, the steam room has been out of operation since before I joined 5 months ago.
I use the womens’ shower 3-5 times/week and on average,1 of those days, the main drain is almost completely clogged, so I pull out the mass of hair myself. This is an improvement from a couple months ago. But I have an idea-could whoever collects dirty towels take a couple extra minutes to check the shower drains?
Genesis is a beautiful facility and I’m thankful for it. Thank you for getting the pool heater fixed.
More group fitness classes in then evenings. They are currently only on Tuesday and Thursday
The facilities
The staff is friendly. The trainers are great, especially Cam.
stop raising prices
Variety of options. Nice group exercise rooms.
The gym is filthy and broken equipment takes way too long to be repaired. I like to go into the classroom on the second floor to stretch after working out and often have to mop the floor first because there are clumps of hair. It’s unbelievable. I don’t think the cardio equipment is ever wiped down, except the top components by conscientious members when they have finished their workouts. I used to belong to the Pinnacle Club and it was always spotless. The maintenance team was there every day moving the machines, wiping them down, mopping, vacuuming and keeping the place nice.
There is no ‘wow’ factor. And sometimes classes are delayed because a prior class runs late (example, the class before Maki’s Tuesday night Zumba class)
Clean up the club and fix broken equipment
Clean the bathroom rooms and pool. So much stuff sitting at the bottom of the pool. The men’s showers have black mold growing everywhere in there. How has the health department not know about it ?????
I love the many options that are available. From the machines and free weights,
To the pool, sauna, basketball court and group fitness classes!! The amazing smoothie bar... there's endless options!! And the atmosphere that is inclusive to all fitness levels. It's truly a fantastic way to start the day!
Honestly, you guys are one of the very few gyms in town that offer childcare. With that being said, equipment needs to be maintained to a higher level. It took months to get replacement ropes for the cable machines. I mean I could have bought ropes for $60 off of Amazon. Also, childcare is not always attended to when they’re supposed to be open and depending on who is working there, depends on the level of care my kids gets. I’ve walked in to pick my kids up and the “caregiver” is sitting in a chair on her phone while all the kids are watching TV. The new caregivers rarely say hello or good morning. You can tell they don’t really want to be there which is concerning since they’re caring for children.
The gym is spectacular. I have some concerns about the business model and how they approach. Account suspension in dire circumstances. I will write a brief letter to encourage ways to look at that in the future
