Repair ALL the broken equipment or replace them. The pads on the machines and stretching machines are in terrible condition. Hire a cleaning service service, pretty much every surface, floor, railings, equipment is covered in years of dust and dirt. The walking track needs a deep clean followed up with constant maintenance. Fix the walls in the women's locker room, been like that for almost 2 years now. Fix the potholes in the parking lot. Excited to see the carpet replaced on the first floor, great start! Now keep updating and I'd be more willing to recommend the place to others!
group fitness classes, specifically Body Balance, Yoga, Cycle, Body Pump, AND the instructors the the BEST!
The level of service provided has dropped considerably from when I signed up. Maintenance, cleaning, service, and utilities are contually interrupted.
Equipment has been out of order for 1.5 years (stairmaster, machines). Staff doesn't enforce gym etiquette (dropping weights, slamming weights, grunting, yelling, not cleaning equipment)
I love the classes! There is an inclusive environment that always has me leaving in a great mood! I made great friends who even helped me celebrate my wedding. I'm blessed by my community at the Boardwalk Genesis!
There have been multiple instances (4-5 that it’s happened when I have been there so not sure how many other times) where I am there at 6am opening time on a Saturday or Sunday and nobody is there to open the building. Usually 20-25 people are waiting outside. Every time, it’s been around 6:25am when somebody shows up and opens the place. I’m not sure the reason it happens, but the fact it continues to happen is less than ideal since I see customers who use the gym consistently who just leave when this happens.
Pool water is very seldom clear. There is cloudiness in water
Cleanliness of the facility as well as condition of the equipment
Limited weight racks/cages and benches.
It’s falling apart. Carpet is nasty. Lockers don’t have locks.
The stairclimbers at the Broken Arrow location were out of order for a period of time, and one of them is still not working. The other locations seem to have more stair climber machines and they are further apart which I like. At the BA location, they are so close together that it's sort of awkward to be on one when there is someone on the machine next to you. I also think it would be nice to have water bottle filling stations (not just water fountains).
Another feature I have enjoyed at other health clubs is having the barcode scan for check-in available on a phone app instead of having to pull out a keychain and scan a physical form of the barcode. Having an app would be much more convenient for check-in, keeping track of the point system that Genesis uses, and could provide better access to club information (special holiday hours, inclement weather closures, etc). It is much easier to access this information in an app than to look through emails or search it on the internet.
The gym isn’t 24 hours. After certain holidays the gym opens later than usual. Often times it isn’t posted. The one time I called to express my concern the person on the other end of the phone didn’t really seem to care or want to address my concern. I asked about getting out of my contract and got told I’d have to pay a lot of money to terminate it early.
There isn’t much available for advanced level athletes, especially who would like to work out in groups. When we have tried to do something like that, the groups get shut down because the material is advanced and requires planning an instruction that makes it look too much like a training session. However, none of the trainers there presently have styles that match our needs, so we feel stuck or like our needs would be better served somewhere else. It’s like we can only do limited styles of fitness, which makes Genesis feel like a “globogym” in the worst sense of the word, and not a place where we build community.
Maintenance sucks at that gym. There are always many broken cables and machines. In the summer, it’s so hot and humid in there.
Cleanliness & friendly atmosphere
The Equipments
Construction is taking forever. Two summers with no pool, treadmills have t been connected to TV for over a year
Broken equipment is starting to pile up. Multiple machines have been out of order for 4+ months. Equipment is old, tearing apart and squeaky. Not exactly sure what I pay $60/mo for at this point.
Variety and the training.
Install a water bottle filler at the Topeka Southwest location so I don’t have to fill my bottle slowly tilted over at the water fountain holding up the line.
Pave the sidewalk clear to the parking lot so I don’t have to walk through 8 feet of wet grass and weeds.
I understand that many updates and improvements are being made which is great, however; general maintenance and upkeep is not getting done.
1. Always out of key cards so two member of my family still don't have one.
2. Clock batteries not replaced.
3. Bathroom doors falling off.
4. Gum all over concrete entrance.
5. Parking lot needs attention.
6. Trash not picked up when left at machine. I watched a bottle of water sit at the same machine for days.
Attention to details is of significant importance to the membership.
Thank you
1. Everything is a bit too dingey for the price: the towels are gray, showers need a good scrubbing, most of the lockers are always locked, etc.
2. It's frequently busy with a poor use of space (tons of cardio that is not that used, bike and yoga rooms that mostly sit empty). Could also use more squat racks, larger free weight section, and 1 more large cable system like what's currently in the middle.
Hours suck. They’ve been on “temporary” hours for over a year now even after they’ve hired more people on. The apparently were going to open the hours back to normal once they hired more. They haven’t.
Pin loaded machines are constantly having the plates stick together. I’ve mentioned this multiple times to management. Nothing has been fixed.
Studio room is dirty constantly. I’m having to clean the floors before I use it.
$50 a month is a complete rip off. I’ve had much better experiences at gyms paying $25 a month.
Not finding substitutes and coming for class and no one is there to teach.
Having to still spray equipment for body bump?? The equipment is getting ruined..plus most folks don't spray anymore so what is the point? Understand if use equipment like cycles , treadmills etc. one need to wash off your sweat etc. for next person
Fans or mirrors etc. not getting fixed.
Some "higher up" men are rude especially to older folks ( been talked about among members)
Where is our "new" Southside Genesis... all wonder what is going on but no one tells us. Will there be a new and improved South Genesis?? We were told this was going to be built after we joined Southside Genesis after the YMCA.
Very clean with a lot of options.
Your rates are too high
I love all the improvements!
I like all the events you have I enjoy
Chris is the best trainer!
I’d love to have easier access to the pool. The whole 24-hr notice/no guest deal was not disclosed to me when I signed my contract, so I was let down when I learned I wasn’t really going to get much enjoyment from the pool.
