It is family friendly. We love the indoor/outdoor pool & hot tub in pool area is awesome & makes this club special. The hot tub in pool area is nice for all to use after swimming & work outs. Love the basketball court but wish it was bigger. The staff is friendly & helpful.we really enjoy this club.

I actually go to W Central. I love my Genesis family. No better place to workout!
Location. friendly. I hear that we have only 1 employee to do repairs and etc. for Genesis. Appearance is important. Fixing and keeping equipment and area in good condition. Employees are friendly and willing to help. Tell them that it makes a difference. We may have had a bad day at home or work and if we get a friendly and helpful to greet us or when we leave it can make a big difference for the rest of our day.
Have the smoothie bar open until the club closes.
You insist on charging me for a month I did not use. You can refund me for the month I did not use, as well set up a system to put the membership on hold for a month at a time (with no notice given) without losing your membership, like all your competitors do...
I have been a member of Aspen Athletics/Genesis Health Clubs since October 2019. I have been active in physical fitness for many years and enrolled in Aspen/Genesis because it had equipment that I need to continue toward my fitness goals. The location on SE14th was okay and some members were friendly, whereas others were not -namely a trainer named Rick. In February 2020 your facilities closed due to COVID-19, however I never cancelled my membership and paid membership fees regularly despite the fact that I received no fitness benefit since the facility was closed.
I began using the facility on Army Post Road in August 2021 and noted that most of the fitness staff was new. I will be blunt: people are tribal. I am a graduate of a public ivy. I wear the emblems of my alma mater on my fitness clothes and baseball cap. I love the University Of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and I will not deny my alumni status. I wear the clothes because they remind me of my school.
The atmosphere of the gym began to change drastically toward the end of 2021. I am a quiet person and I will happily converse with people if they converse with me; I am there to exercise however and do not participate in gossip but exercise because that is why I'm there.
The best way to describe it is that humans have an evolved sense when things are amiss and we should never ignore our feelings when something appears off. I began to notice that people glared angrily as I exercised, and two incidents were particularly troubling. Both transpired at night; on one occasion a couple of people began yelling and cursing loudly not far from where I was exercising. Although people act to psyche themselves up when exercising, the action was more ominous particularly since I never before witnessed that at any gym I ever attended.
The other incident was more personal: I was at the coat rack and a male approached and stood approximately two feet from me and stood glaring at me. I had never seen the individual before; he stood for there for approximately twenty seconds before walking away. There was no reason for that.
I reported these things to the manager Abe and he seemed genuinely concerned. I told him that because of the atmosphere I was concerned for the safety of my sister and myself (she is also a graduate of university not in Iowa and wears the emblem of her alma mater when at the gym).
Of the gym fitness staff, Abe and a bearded fitness trainer are the only ones who have been friendly and helpful, the other fitness staff that work in the gym (particularly Rick and a light brown-haired female and a blonde female) are neither friendly nor helpful and if in an emergency I would not feel that they would be willing to help us in anyway.
Tribalism is unsettling and gross. There have been numerous studies done on the subject of jealousy and even laymen articles have been written about it. I suggest you read "Jealousy & The Uglier Side Of Sports" by Alan Goldberg, "What Is The Us Against Them Mentality" by Dan Brennan, MD and "Burn the Witch" by Radiohead.
We are just as human as everyone else and attending the gym has helped with our physical fitness goals. To deny us this or to say perhaps we should go to another gym would be a disservice to us.
We have lifelong friends who know we exercise. But at present I would not recommend they go to Genesis Health Club of Army Post Road because it would not be a pleasant experience.
We pay our membership fees and are quiet people wo we will not be dropping our membership or accept a mere refund. We just want to exercise in peace.
I had reached out about aquatic program / swim lessons (private and group) 14 times now. Each time, I was promised an associate would get right back, and I haven’t heard back. We went ahead and signed up for another program outside the gym. We also never heard back about putting membership on hold when I went into labor with my second child.
We are seriously considering a different gym.

Your facility needs upgraded. The machines are old. There is only one clock with the correct time.

When the OneLife managed the gym, I was never there when there wasn't at least one, often two (one male/one female) cleaning people present - wiping down machines, sweeping floors, emptying trash. I don't think I have seen one cleaning person since Genesis took over management. I am regularly there 3 - 4x a week, usually after 5 p.m. Trash is often over flowing in the men's locker room, paper towel/soap dispensers are frequently empty, etc. Facial tissue (Kleenex) used to be regularly available throughout the gym. Now I rarely, if ever, see it. That is particularly problematic during allergy season. Bottom-line, there no longer seems to be the attention to detail nor employee engagement there used to be. Other than trainers, I rarely see staff interacting with members.

The Leavenworth location could be improved by keeping the sauna in a working condition (it seems to be "out" of order more often than not), and by keeping the pool and hot tub areas cleaner.
Generally, things are not as good as they were before the ownership change.
better hours----staying open longer than 2pm on july 4th.......maybe 5pm would be better? As charter Prairie Life Member, used to have longer hours.
1. Consistent quality of soap/shampoo in the showers.
2. Better hours on the weekends (open earlier) and holidays (have at least limited hours).
The music (loud noise) coming over the loud speaker in the men''s bathroom area is tottslly annoying and unnecessary. Turn down the volume please or better yet tuy it off. Nobody visits that area of the club to enjoy loud obnoxious noise .
I love everything about the club except the pool area. It is in desperate need of repair and updating. I know you probably can't do anything about it this year but I really hope you will consider repainting and updating things. It could be an amazing pool area with a little help. We need to get the people back to this great pool.
A little bit cleaner and nicer looking facility on the inside
The pool temp at Lawrence North is dangerous for serious swimmers. As a regular swimmer I am very displeased that I must pay to swim at other Lawrence facilities and pay high fees to continue my regular swimming fitness level. Changing the water temp has easy solutions but no one seems to care. This happens every summer. Very frustrating for the Genesis swim community. Please consider SOMETHING to help members.
Genesis does not put a priority in fixing there equipment and maintaining a clean environment. For example, many of the TV’s do not work on the treadmills and have been that way for weeks. I have notified staff a while back and still not addressed. Front door has been broke for weeks. Many times there are not even towels provided at front desk to wipe down the equipment. Also, steam room always smells like mold or fungus growing. I would love to utilize it, but scared of acquiring some type of lung infection.
Positive, there is plenty’s of equipment and the size of building is very nice.
The facilities are all very nice and well kept. The membership price seems to be higher than most competing gyms however. I couldn't recommend genesis health clubs knowing that other nice places are more affordable
Expand they gym to include possibly a pool, basketball courts, racquetball courts, etc.

Since Sara became the club manager the club is much better, she is very receptive to suggestions/complaints.
The indoor pool water has been better--it would be nice if the outdoor pool had lane markers in place in the morning for lap swimmers as there has been a lot of swimmers. I was disappointed that the outdoor slides weren't working or the buckets when I brought my 2 grandchildren to swim.
There are 2 broken faucets in the women's locker room that could also be fixed.
Please remodel the showers and bathroom for the women's locker room. The toilets are constantly smelly and old stalls, and the showers are constantly leaking water from the shower heads. Thanks!
