Great social and educational outlet for kids. It’s an after school hangout / music school, which teaches kids to express themselves, and have fun at the same town. My child is a computer loving introvert, but loves his time playing with his group, even the private tutoring. No talent required to start. They’ll find your hidden talent!
My son had a blast! Learned a lot and is excited to do more.
Good class for beginners and experienced musicians alike
So far, my son seems to be enjoying his class and from what I observed (at the very first session) his instructor, Sean, is able to get across to the kids pretty well and doing a good job.
My two daughters don't seem to be enjoying their class experience, however.
They seem disengaged at best.
I don't want to blame it on their instructor, Bryn, because I certainly have nothing against her but, for whatever reason, she is not getting through to my daughters and I don't want to spend good money if they aren't getting anything out of it.
I was able to sit in on the first class but since the policy of School of Rock is that parents need to stay out of the rooms, I'm not able to really tell what Bryn is attempting to teach the kids on a week-to-week basis but, whatever that is, her style/personality isn't breaking through to them.
As a side note, the week before July 4th, Bryn ended the class at least 10 minutes early because she said the kids weren't really engaged.
Today, she brought the girls out about 10 minutes before the end of class and told my wife they were just sitting there doing nothing for the last 30 minutes. Why did Bryn wait so long to tell her that? If they were doing that even for only 5 minutes, she should've simply signaled to my wife they weren't cooperating rather than everyone's time being wasted.
The (first) week that I did sit in I wasn't finding the session particularly engaging either.
It might be made more difficult because Bryn is having to work with a special needs child as well.
The first few times the mother and the father were both there in the class with him so if one of them had to leave the other one was there to keep an eye on things.
However, today, only the father showed up. At one point he had to leave to go to the restroom. My wife happened to be in there briefly because the girls weren't engaged - she was trying to get them more involved. Once the father left the child started throwing a tantrum and this, of course, made my daughters become more apprehensive.
All that said, I want to see if I can change my daughters to a different instructor.
If that can't be accomplished, then please consider this notice of cancellation for them.
To clarify, I'd rate my son's experience at around 8 or 9 but my two daughters' experience at around a 2. All that combined is why I answered the cumulative experience as a 6.
Learning an instrument and actually using what you learn while playing with a band. Having the responsibility to learn your songs to play them live in a few weeks creates a great commitment to learning and practicing.
James is AMAZING! He takes his time with my child and makes sure that there is a complete understanding of the material. They absoutely love coming!
Convenient location, nice staff
I love the positive encouragement and energy in the studio. I love that there is a place for everyone no matter your age or skill level. It's not your ordinary music school!
This has been one of the best decisions our family has ever made! Our children love music and learning and performing in a group because of Southlake/Keller School of Rock and its sensational instructors and staff. Our family has been with SOR for nearly a decade now, and it feels like a second home. Such a gift!
Competent and professional teachers and staff
The instructors are excellent and encourage the kids to challenge themselves and try new instruments.
I love how patient everyone is and the overall atmosphere is so comforting.
Kids spend time together trying something new. Got to try new instruments with safe leaders. Really great staff who are patient with the kids and open to helping them.
I love this program! My son has gone from having an interest in music to it becoming a passion. He has made new friends and the instructors have been great. I always tell people about the positive experience we have with School of Rock
We need to have make up classes, I will be calling to attempt to schedule Asher a makeup class as most school of music offer these items.
School of rock has been the best school i have ever been too! I have been to other schools and hands down this school has the best instructors and staff .
Archer has loved working with Mr. Matt! He has only been coming to the rookies class for a little over a month now but he looks forward to Tuesdays so much!
Great Job Y'all! One piece of feedback is that the bands are not playing the same amount of shows on the final weekends. Miss being able to see the show a couple times versus once.
I like that you center the program around popular songs, and that they get to experience playing in a band with other musicians immediately.
You guys the Brst
My daughters teacher is very supportive and encouraging. It’s fun that you get to be part of a band almost right away!
Kalob Is a great teacher.
We like the concerts.
Customer service is great.
Great experience and a positive learning environment.
My Granddaughter loves it. Her teacher her band teacher and all the interaction with the kids in
her band. She loves being able to learn drums in a fun environment.
Great people, great program.. enough said.
For children and young adults, the type of instruction is very good. I took lessons (many years ago) and the structure was more formal, and I was not that excited about going or furthering my study of music. My child enjoys her instructor (Lori) and is eager for this time.
Knowledgeable instructors that make the learning experience fun.
Friendly people and fun activities. It’s so much more than just music lessons. The cost gets daunting when you have other kids in other activities.
I have been taking lessons and participating in band programs for half my life at School of Rock. Teenager now adult, I continue to experience the value of this performance based music education. I would recommend this program to anyone that wants to learn a new skill in a fun, social environment.
Everything. Private lessons have been great- as an intermediate adult taking lessons from Layne, I've really enjoyed how he lets me decide the direction of our lessons.
Group lessons are amazing! Highlight of my week. Tim, Melissa, and Matt make it fun, and really get us sounding good. I like the approach, the set lists- pretty much everything. No complaints- couldn't recommend more highly.
