Fantastic staff and components
Wes provided excellent customer service and recommendations for our 9 year-old and 7 year-old. He was extremely helpful and we bought two much-needed new bikes.
Everyone was very professional great service
This trip, just wanted pedal replacements. The sales persons gave me a quick review of my options with prices and offered the put the pédales on the bike during the checkout. No lecture, no fuss, no up-sell attempts. I was on my way in minutes, and very relieved.
Folks were very patient, kind, and helpful in letting me take my time to make up my mind regarding the stock saddle that came with the bike. At no time did I feel any pressure to hurry up even though I could tell my specific anatomical needs were probably rather puzzling!
I don't know whether it's my age, weight, or something else but nothing seemed to fit better than just "okay" so in the end I figured I'd simply use an old saddle I had at home from a previous bicycle which I knew would be okay, too (I had been all excited about my new Bicycle Habitat bike and imagined maybe saddle "technology" had improved somehow over the years)...based on my experience, yes I certainly recommend Bicycle Habitat to one and all!
I'm especially thankful to Wesley at the Park Slope store for all his time and help -- as well as Kate for her suggestions and cutting and installing a kickstand! Jim took time to give the bike a spin to check out certain concerns I'd raised and Chris provided helpful suggestions on an appropriate seat post with respect to my saddling issues. Thank you Bicycle Habitat for fielding a great team on the retail floor!
Great range of options! I went in looking for a bike rack, and there were several to choose from. The staff was very friendly and helpful! Would definitely recommend this place to others.

expert repairs
I always go to Bicycle Habitat. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly and very responsive. If you buy your bike here, they give you minor maintenance for free. It's great to have such a reliable bike shop so close to home.
Really appreciated the help picking out parts! The bike maintenance took significantly longer than originally estimated (est: ~1h, actual: 3h), and they didn't actually get to everything (I was adding some stuff and also needed something diagnosed, but they only added stuff without diagnosing/fixing what was broken on the bike).
On the delay: Mentally I already prepared for the maintenance taking a day or two before going in, but when they said it would only take about an hour I changed my plans for the day and stayed nearby so I could come pick it up. I would have much preferred them to overestimate the maintenance time 1. because that probably would have been closer to the realistic time; and 2. so that I could have kept my original plans and not wasted so much time sitting around waiting.
On the maintenance: at least I wasn't charged for diagnosing/fixing the bike, but now I'll have to go take it in again (honestly, probably somewhere else) which is another time suck. Even when I came back to check in on my bike, the maintenance person looked back at the notes and realized they hadn't actually put on or planned to put on everything, so if I hadn't come back to check in on it then it sounds like I would have had that problem too. Maybe it's on me because the maintenance person didn't even ask me to confirm all the things that needed to be done (they just asked "you're the person whose getting stuff added right", because the sales person talked to them on my behalf) but I did write all the additions and problems (which I had also mentioned to the sales person the problem, so I trust that the sales person told the maintenance person about it).
Overall: I trust the sales people, I don't trust maintenance. I might stop in to buy things here and there, but I'll go somewhere else to actually put it on the bike or to fix things on my bike.

Jim was very kind to my daughter. Explained the differences between the helmets and helped us find one that fit well in a fun pattern.
I was a first-time buyer of any kind of bike, apart from the one I had as a toddler (purchased by my parents, presumably), so I had virtually no knowledge of what to look for. Katharine Magradey helped me throughout the process and was incredibly patient with all my questions and test rides.
I visited the store twice as part of my process to find the right bike and tried two different models. Katharine answered my million questions with patience and thoughtfulness and offered great insight into both the technical differences between the bikes and how those differences would affect the real-world riding experience. Katharine’s practical guidance ultimately made my decision much easier.
Overall, I am extremely satisfied with the experience and the bike I selected. I could not recommend the store, or Katharine’s knowledge, patience, and exceptional service, more highly.
