Parking lot repairs, upgrade in some equipment/machines, and increase air flow in bathrooms and locker rooms (Vivion location).
Towels are not good. Small and not absorbing. Seems very hot inside the facility even considering the heat outside.
The shower heads are poor at best. Not adjustable and water flow is poor.
I like the group fitness classes especially HIIT!!
Things are definitely improving since Jim Johnston started. The staff seem more reliable and the place flows. I had taken a break from working out due to so much going on in life, but since getting back into it I've noticed things are getting fixed. I do miss having the heavier few barbells downstairs though. I believe they were 65, 75, 85 and 95 lbs. They were nice to use for quick sets instead of waiting for space upstairs on busy days.
I love the many locations and how comfortable I feel when I go! I’ve met many people and it’s like my second home. Been a member of Genesis for probably almost 10 years now and it’s been great seeing how far they’ve come.
The increase in price, does not account for gym and services. My friends are not willing to join for the extra fees. Therefore, i tend to go to other genesis gyms.
Great layout and cleanliness
Lower the volume of the music in the group bicycle class.
Repair lockers under stairs.
Familiar with it...been a member for 30+ years.
1) Competent and helpful staff
2) You are open for business virtually every day of each year.
3) Excellent hours...you are open early each morning and you are open until 9:00 p.m. at night.
Nothing has changed. Roof still leaks leading to stained/broken ceiling tiles. Clocks have been broken for years. Ice machine is now broken. Window still out of court 6 door. The club is a mess!!!!! Only redeeming asset is Ryan and Mark.
A lot the treadmills and rowing machines aren’t working properly. You have some weight machines that aren’t working properly. You need to have Bluetooth capability on TVs
I have been a member here for more than 36 years.
I was disappointed when the staff and members were not required to wear a mask during active COVID. Many of the early morning members are 65 or older. ..seems like upper , upper management is not setting an appropriate example.
The coffee machine was out for months! It seems like that is an easy fix..buy a new coffee machine and ensure that coffee and teas are ordered in a timely manner.
Outdoor landscape is embarrassing...weeds and lack of upkeep makes it unappealing from the road. Need to hire a landscape company to design and maintain grounds.
Unfulfilled promises to upgrade and CLEAN the club esp locker Rooms
Wide variety of assorted workouts
I have noticed quit a few Exercise equipment pads needing TLC, needing reupholstered.
Fix parking lot. Weight machines have weight selection pins missing (for months). Wall by stairway where floor mats used to hang looks terrible!
Love the welcoming atmosphere and variety of fitness equipment. Also really appreciate the cleanliness of the gym and locker rooms, especially after using the locker room at the renovated 84th & Q location, their locker room has a lot to be desired in cleanliness…I think the port a potties during renovation were cleaner than their current locker room, bathrooms & showers.
Keep up the great work Midtown!!!
The atmosphere, cleanliness, and equipment.
Made several mistakes with credit card payment
Per usual the outdoor pool has been out of control with 12-16 freshmen-sophomore age gang of boys disturbing everybody else on a daily basis. Refusal to follow rules such as staying in the pool during safety break, chicken fights, throwing the football and the lifeguards ignore it. Probably because they are the same age. This is all stuff that goes on in public pools which is why people join health clubs to get away from all of the above. Feel sorry for moms and little kids having to listen to f-bombs and cussing yelled at full volume across the pool.
Variety of classes available.

I saw 3 machines that had “out of service” signs on them. Then I tried the Adductor machine and that also was broken but there wasn’t a sign on it (I let the front desk know as I was leaving). So that’s 4 machines within 10 feet of each other. I didn’t go upstairs or use any of the machines that were behind the free weights section, so I’m unsure how many machines were actually broken throughout the gym. The machines just seem run down. I am thinking about switching gyms since I can go to another one for the same price and it’s way nicer.
The one upside is that there were new/more squat racks, but the smith machines were moved to the area that I do my warmups/ab workouts. So now there isn’t as much room over there.
Location, equipment, and employees
Keep the place clean—everything looks grimy.
Replace equipment. A lot of stuff is tearing apart. The benches, stretch area pads, blue padded things—they’re all falling apart. I took 4 months off from going to try out other places, and I feel like this gym has gone downhill QUICK since OneLife switched to Genesis. Other friends have vocalized the same thing.
The equipment doesn’t get fixed. The club needs some renovation as well. AC is working half of the time. It seems that the management gave up on this club.
Thank you
I would have liked to have seen the track have more separation from the workout spaces. As it is now, there is no direction (certain day, certain direction) and people meander across the track from one machine to another. Several times recently, there have been a couple people running or sprinting and they come around a corner and others walk into their path. Too much congestion on the west side of upper level.
One Life has always been a great gym. The equipment, layout, and overall facility is very nice and well kept. I've been a member since 2019, and it's one of my favorite gyms to date.
My only complaint, as I was a member before Genesis bought out One Life, is that the management team was replaced shortly after the acquisition. Tyler and other staff members were absolutely wonderful and made me feel welcome every single I time I came in. They showed interested in getting to know their gym members, which really stood out to me, and it adds such a positive piece to the experience. I haven't experienced the same level of interest with Genesis team members, but I hope that changes with time.
All in all, I still love One Life and would recommend the gym to anyone. You really do have everything you need there, and I'm excited when it comes to exercise.
