The people and programming for tennis
There are too many different brands of plates in the squat rack section. At least three different types and they’re all scattered/mixed together so it takes time trying to find a matching pair. I wish they were all uniform. Also some of the machine equipment is getting old. The standing calf raise machine had no shoulder pads on it when I was last there, so basically unusable, and some of the leg curl machines have pads that are pretty worn (that’s not too much of a concern). And lastly one of the cable machines has the weight markings too faded to tell what weight the pin is in. Lastly, the row machines are all very scrunched together while the rest of the gym is pretty spread out.
Mens steam room could really use some maintenance. Tiles falling off, and filthy every time I go in. Rest of the facility seems pretty nice.
Please consider updating the swimming pool at FCC.
I like the variety of equipment in the gym along with the updated locker room.

Basically, I just want things to work right. most of the showers don't work right but its great you cleaned up most of the mold that was forming all over the locker room. The HVAC system has been down for a long time in the guy's locker room, so it smells and is hot in there. The hot tub in the pool area seems to have issues auto refilling so at night its really low. I guess the jets have not worked in a week too. Thats what I can think off of the top of my head but that's enough to illustrate the point.
Ever since Genesis took possession of our fitness center, it has deteriorated: lack of cleanliness, lack of decency in relating to PEOPLE( ie firing an employee on VERY short notice due to already having her replacement lined up within Genesis, & making up a ridiculous excuse to do so! Lack of care concerning clients; non functional showers/toilets during repairs yet no notice of such to members walking in!
MOST grievous: claiming it’s a “Premiere” facility worthy of higher charges. Having HAD an open house, yet NO Spa facilities function as advertised!
Where are the new towels????? Clean the mirrors in yoga room and studio 1. Areas around the treadmills and floor equipment are so dirty! Gary would be so critical of this too! I Miss Gary!!!
AC needs to be improved.
The pool is filthy!!! Both the outdoor and indoor in west Des Moines!
Ac broken for months/steamroom broken still months later/took 6 months to fix a sink / have not cleaned the carpet in 2 years/ more than 17 pads on equipment are torn so they can not be cleaned / dirty non maintained . Your gym on 132 is worse with mold in the lockerroom and almost all of the showers don’t work . I can’t wait for another gym open downtown so I can leave
This site is really too far for me, I rated as a 5 because I can't really say if it's super great or horrible. What I do know is that all Genesis staff I have come across have been AWESOME and facilites have been clean.
Up dated locker room and showers
It really depends on why someone would want to go to this gym. If it is a tennis program, hands down yes, this is 100% my favorite in town. And we have tried a lot of places for tennis for our daughter. If someone wants a gym to workout, I would not recommend Genesis on Hickman Rd. The facilities are in dire need of updating! You have to know that when the ceiling is always leaking and everything is dirty. I only work out there because my daughter is in tennis there. Without the tennis programs, the place would not last. When I joined over a year ago I heard that there will be a pool and a whole renovation… still waiting to see this!!!
Foremost I would say is the staff that cleans the floor, locker rooms, machines and workout equipment. In todays times with unknown viruses and COVID this is a concern of all members.
The staff is friendly and professional and always available to answer questions.
Friendly and lots of equipment
New dumbbells, new plates, new benches.
The gym is unchanged since I worked there 10 years ago. The hot tub and pool have been hit or miss from a functional perspective all summer. No AC
More cleaning and towels always available.
Fresh coffee always made.
The variety of machines.
The cleanliness.
I would only recommend it if the swimming or the hours are something that you require because of the price

It needs to be updated. I’m thinking about switching to a nicer gym. The steam room is nasty. The showers need to be updated.
Membership is a little expensive but I like being able to go and work out whenever and the gym is close to my house
The regular maintenance is sorely lacking. The outdoor tennis courts are badly cracked. The indoor tennis courts need to be cleaned. The air conditioning in Studio 1 has been broken for several weeks. The heat in Studio 1 didn't work most of the winter. It appears that the entire facility is going down hill.
