IT STAYS PRETTY MUCH CLEAN
Great facility--Everything works most of the time. All gyms with steam rooms have trouble keep them operating. Also-friendly and dedicated staff. I think that Chas does a great job. Committed to having a first rate club.
Fix your sauna.
Has a basketball court and is local.
There are weights on a ton of machines all the time. I have had to assist many older people during my workouts to take weight off other machines, yet there are 3 people upfront and trainers just sitting in the office. It would literally take 5 minutes to go around the area and put weights back. Not everyone wants a 45 left on the machines. Perhaps put up a sign? Or help put the weights away.
The machines are not in the best condition. Many pads are cracked which is very concerning for proper sanitation. The carpets need a good cleaning--especiall in the locker room. Do like the layout of the machines and nice atmosphere. Staff nice. Really like Jim and the manager. He seems on top of things.
Convenience and consistency.
Great facility. Outstanding staff . Would like to see expanded closing hours to midnight instead of the days it's 10:00 and 10:00 on Sat-Sun. Keep up the good job Genesis staff @ Westroads!
I like the classes offered and the instructors. I also like the events that the club has.
Payment of multiple sessions Pilates classes should not have to be tied Tia credit card and require a 30 day notice to stop sessions. It is insulting.
The hours
Poor member contact.
I love the new remodel and upgrades :) thank you so much!
Instructors
All the exercise bikes should have foot pedals. Only a few do.
The facility itself is a major reason I score Genesis so high (10). I don't come close to using all available activities or areas, but I'm aware of them and appreciate that the club supports such a broad spectrum of activities, equipment, locker room (including steam both, sauna and whirlpool), stationary bike, weight and cardio equipment and a jogging / walking track and more. Speaking personally, the jogging track and the sauna are absolutely vital to me. I use both, as well as the upstairs workout area, several times a week.
Classes are very well structured, and fun.
Friendly
Bring back the wipes instead of paper towels and spray bottles. Wipes are a lot easier to use for cleaning and a lot more sanitary. Half the time the supplies are out or paper towels and spray bottles aren't in the same place which makes people lazy to go find them which ends up with people not cleaning the equipment. If there is an environmental concern then provide biodegradable wipes. A big of gym as Genesis should be able to afford to provide wipes.
Signing up for classes was a lot easier when the gym was Power and Light because you could use the app on your phone to check class times and easily sign up - including using the pool.
I would like to see more information available online and up-to-date information online. There is little to no up-to-date information for Genesis Overland Park on the website.
The tennis courts need to be cleaned and the scoring numbers repaired/replaced. The nets between the courts need to also be maintained consistently. Broken hooks/brackets make them difficult to open/close properly. Participants in drills (adults and children) need to clean up balls behind the curtains so that people don't have to spend a lot of time trying to find the game balls if they go behind the curtain. These small things would make a huge difference! It is a shame to have such a lovely tennis facility and have these easy fixes ignored.
Your machines are in dire need of repair! I've mentioned this multiple times and nothing seems to get fixed. The three stair master units on the S end are either out of commission, have crushed stair treads, or weak motors (super slow to start up). Many machines are slowly, gradually becoming unusable.
The three blue handled free motion elliptical machines on the North end have had their programming changed since last November. They will currently only reach a resistance level of "5." They used to go much higher than that. Something happened with a power outage?
The low review mark comes from lip service. I've been told that these machines would be fixed. Nothing is happening. I suggested that you re-number the machines so people could report small errors before they turned into big problems - no one listened. In the past, someone tried to "pass the buck" to Gary who cleans the place and does laundry. I love Gary, but saying he will fix all your machines is patronizing (and false).
I love this location, but you guys aren't being responsive.
The water aerobics classes.
Gym staff for sure! Completely incompetent and judgey. They spend half the time on their phones and refuse to keep the gym clean. There are tons and mean TONS of cummed filled towels on the floor and they take their time cleaning them up. COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE! At this point I'm recommending people go to planet fitness instead. I'm so close to cancelling my membership and going somewhere by else. Also a couple thing to note, I can not stand the little kids running around the gym taking up space and the Indians that go there REAK of Curry.
I have enjoyed multiple group classes all over the city. I can workout with my favorite instructor or class style I want on any given day. Group class pushes me harder than a self-directed workout. My suggestion: Pick a class, pace yourself, get all your reps in, and cool down. Next time the same and when ready add some weight or push a little farther. The routines change so you don't end up with the same-old same-old. Good luck
Emphasize cleaning floor in yoga room.
Emphasize cleaning in women’s changing room.
Less impact of the summer children’s program.
Eliminate screaming and hollering of the children on the basketball court.
Open earlier on Saturday morning.
Great facilities, friendly front-desk staff.
Nick is a great manager and Lauren and Morgan are amazing Group X teachers.
After working out at other Genesis clubs in town it is very evident that this club needs a facelift. New equipment, new parking lot, fresh paint etc. I have worked out here for almost 15 years and many things are still the same. Many of the machines have pins missing from them which makes working out with the correct weight hard. Many tv’s don’t work on the cardio machines. I know there has been a big turnover at this club so I think that shows it needs a facelift. But it needs to be started in the club first not the dressing rooms.
Pool chair lift. Handicap automatic door opener on the front door.
A cleaner showering, steam room, hot tub area. Some of the machines are also broken.
