Having somebody come all the way out to just tell me I need a structural engineer assessment first feels a bit deceiving. I would have preferred that to be upfront, so it didn't waste my time with an appointment that wasn't really needed.
I appreciated Craig’s honesty and common sense approach.
I got the impression that the contractor really didn’t want to work with me. The estimate I received was extremely high for the work and I haven’t been able to find any justification for such a price, which solidified my impression that he didn’t want to work with me.

Yes, I wanted a 2 foot section of handrail installed on my front porch. The initial estimate was $1700. After commenting on the high price, it came down to $1300. I have done many handyman projects in my lifetime. The materials cost no more than $200-$250 it’s no more than two man hours of work. $1300 is highway robbery.
Yes! Failure to appear at time scheduled by your company. My appointment was scheduled for 9:30 to 11:30. At or around 12, I was called and told…”we will be there around 12:30. At 2:10, I was telephoned and told…”we were not given an address. I can understand, something came up, can we reschedule. However, to say I don’t have an address to your house, gives cause to doubt integrity.

It would be better to just send an engineer first for a quick assessment and include that in the free assessment.
