a great business all around. one of the things i really like and appreciate is that for quick mechanical adjustments that took little time, they don't bother charging us. they really feel like part of the community, all good ppl there, nice vibe.
I brought my bike in to get a rear rack attached (specifically, one I could attach a basket to) and asked for my brake pads to be checked because they were kinda squeaky. The technician was super nice and said he could check the brakes but that it might be easier to just replace the brake pads. I deferred to his expertise. I came back an hour later and somehow the entire rear brake caliper had fallen off my bike. Mistakes happen, so I wasn't stressed and asked him what needed to be done. He said y'all didn't have the right brake caliper or rack, so he would have to order both in order to service my bike, which could take up to a week. As my bike was in literal pieces I didn't have much of a choice and gave him the OK to go ahead and order the parts and call me when it was done. I made sure to specify multiple times that I needed a rear rack that could hold a basket *not* a pannier rack and that if a pannier rack was all that was available I was fine without getting a rear rack at this point.
A week went by and I heard nothing, so I called the shop to check in. They had no update and said they were still waiting on the brake caliper. I had to call four or five more times over the next week before I learned that the brake caliper was actually on back order till July. The person on the phone suggested they could put in another order for a caliper, but I wasn't confident that the same thing wouldn't happen. I couldn't go without my bike till July (I use it to commute), so I ended up calling more than a dozen bike shops in the NYC area till I found one with the right part in deep Sunset Park. I trekked out there, bought it and brought the part in to the shop for you to install. When I finally got my bike back, I found that y'all had installed a rear rack designed for panniers only (specifically the Blackburn Interlock Lockable Rear Rack, which is mostly compatible with Blackburn panniers), which was disappointing. It had been two weeks at that point since I first brought it in and I couldn't go any longer without my bike so I sucked it up and went home with it.
I know bike repairs are complicated and y'all are trying your best, so I don't hold it against you, but I would suggest in the future being a bit more proactive with communications if there are delays and making a note of customer requests when it comes to special orders.
expert repairs. friendly service
Perpetually reliable, approachable, honest and fair. Their place in the neighborhood only serves to grow my family's interest in cycling.
The friendly and skilled mechanics!
Elvis was wonderful with my 7 year old who needed a new helmet: attentive, detail-oriented and extremely knowledgeable. It took a long time to get the fit right and he was patient and skillful in asking questions, making adjustments and trying out different products.

Matt and Dave are the best!
Knowledgeable, skillfull and personable staff. Got my ride good as new in less than 2 days (2008 Specialized Allez needed a full tune, new cables, brake pads, wraps, wheels trued). Will certainly be back when I need work again.
Excellent service. Low key and down to earth staff make you feel so comfortable.

Thoughtful snd friendly.
Great customer service and attentiveness. Super fast turnaround times and high quality work too!
My wife and I were provided with excellent and friendly service in the selection and outfitting of our bikes. Noah was the tech who helped me out. Great guy. Actually today was our first day taking the bikes out, and they're dreamy. Thanks to the kickass staff at Vanderbilt Bicycle Habitat.
You guys were very honest and up front about what could be done versus what should be done and you left a decision up to me. I never felt pressured to get additional maintenance or to buy anything and I trust you guys implicitly. I used to live in the neighborhood and I moved farther. Uptown, but it's absolutely worth it to me to make the trip to go to a bike shop that I trust
Eduardo was great! Really like the bike and he was a great help. Definitely gonna come back when I need something else.
Thanks,
