I purchased a Trek dual sport 3 on 11/8/2023. The following day 11/9/2023 I made the 4hr drive from Atlanta to pick up my purchase. Upon arrival i informed the gentleman behind the service desk ( who was very kind and helpful ) that I was there to pick my bike that was purchased the day prior. He began to thoroughly inspect the bike prior to transferring it over to me. During his inspection he found that one of the brake levers was wet and was potentially leaking fluid. He then sent the bike to the back for the technician to uninstall then reinstall the brake line. After receiving the okay from the technician he finalized the purchase and hand the bike over to me. I got the bike home, but was not able to ride until Sunday evening because of inclement weather in my area over the weekend. Initially I was very pleased with my purchase until about 10 minutes into my test ride while traveling down hill facing on coming traffic I applied pressure to the rear brake lever to control my speed. I noticed that this particular lever was touching the handle bar and that the pressure that was actually being applied to the actual rear braking mechanism was minimal. I could not believe what I was experiencing. I immediately cut my ride short and got the bike back to my home for further inspection. Upon inspecting the brake lever I found that is was leaking significant amounts of fluid under pressure . I was furious but also thankful because my initial plan for this bike was to install my newly purchased child seat so that my 2 year old son could ride along with me. Luckily I decided to take the bike out for a test run prior to installing the seat, if I had not done that the outcome could have been disastrous. I will speak with my local trek store Monday morning ( who actually recommended bicycle cove as a secondary option once it was discovered that the particular color bike that I was interested in was no longer being produced) to see what their recommended course of action would be at this point. I’m leaning heavily towards just returning it to Madison.

The gentleman that helped me last year when I bought the gift card for my daughter in law so she could have her Electra Cruiser made ready to ride was ver nice and helpful. He was the same person who helped when I brought the bicycle in recently. The bike looked almost new when I picked it up. I was a little surprised that it was a little more that the gift card amount because of our conversation earlier, but it was still reasonable I felt.
