Polite and qualified
When picking up a customer from the waiting room or when they arrive to pick up their car, first thing is to establish repport. Simply ask them:
Was there any specific question I can answer for you?
After that conversation then tell them the results of the service.
It was done on my visit in the opposite order and so I completely forgot the questions I had for the Technicians and had to call back later to get that information.
Also it causes a lack of trust between the customer and the Technician; if they dump an issue on the customer first ting without any rapport being established.
And the impact on staff is minimal - after all they have a written record about what they will be talking to the customer about; so they won't forget the issue they have to relay...
