Sylvan is an excellent place where students are able to learn and engage with other students while also receiving supportive tutoring. The tutors are awesome and the executive director and regional director are both incredibly helpful and kind!
My daughter was struggling with her reading, would cry when working with her at home so we decided to try an outside source to see if it would help. She's at her reading level in school now and she looks forward to going to her tutoring session's.
Friendly, helpful -- my kids love / have loved working with them. Our kids are older / were older when began working with Sylvan: 11-12 years old & older. They don't baby them and work with them, encouragingly, to build confidence along with knowledge and skills.
My student was having a difficult time with one of the school subjects and the tutors at Sylvan made sure they scheduled enough time each week to get my student caught up. The tutors were understanding about missing a few classes and they were able to give my student make-up sessions for the sessions missed. Every few weeks, I had a zoom meeting to go over my student's progress report and they made sure any questions I had were answered. I am totally satisfied with the services they are providing for my student.

Sylvan of Muskegon has been so amazing! Heather is great and has a wonderful group of teachers. We have seen so much improvement in our son. He loves going and his teacher at school likes seeing his growth academically & his continued growth in his confidence. Tyler isn’t afraid of making mistakes or not knowing the answer because Sylvan has taught him it’s ok to not always be right. He likes reading now & his favorite subject is math! It is an investment in our son and his future!
All staff is very understanding, friendly and kind hearted. Program is progressing based on my child’s needs and comfort level. Communication about my daughter’s progress or any questions I may have are always answered quickly.
My granddaughter attends Western High School, and was having trouble understanding the way Algebra 2 was being taught not just her other students were having the same problem,
even the Tutor at the school couldn’t help her.
During the pandemic all these youngsters were home with the lack of their normal in class teacher’s.

So far, our 15-year-old son is enjoying himself. The staff are flexible, fun, understanding, and willing to work with us. Our son is doing the study skills program this summer, so I have hopes that he is internalizing the information and will be able to really use the skills over the school year. I do feel like it is more of him going through slides and not interacting with the staff as much as I'd wish, and doing it during the school year would probably be more effective than over the summer. We hope to continue during the school year, but things just get so busy it's difficult to carve out a 2-hour block weekly.
