I find I push myself a lot harder at OTF than I have done in other group exercise sessions such as boot camp. Seeing your heart rate on screen means you can't escape seeing the effort level you're putting in - if you're not trying as hard as you might there's no hiding from it. Each session I'm competing with myself to push as hard as I can. I enjoy the mixture of sessions and also the mix of exercise within each session. It's a great mixture of high intensity cardio and weights/TRX. Genuinely the best regular workout I can get!
Variations of exercises - today's (8.9.16) power session was one of the best sessions I've done!
I love that it has a weights component and an aerobic component. I detest doing weights but recognise it is beneficial and even important for my overall fitness so if I was in a regular gym, I know I would be too lazy and unmotivated to do this. I also love that it is focused heavily on treadmill with half the class devoted to this training. I have found that treadmills are the best way for me to burn calories and I also feel like I have done a workout unlike other machines. Also I have tried functional training and cross fit and I find that these classes are painful and I incurred a lot of injuries but there was very little to show for it in terms of caloric expenditure. I love that the heart rate monitor monitors your pace and progress (even if I've had issues with the heart rate working) and having it up on the board names and shames so I am always motivated to get as many splat points as possible. Also I like that the instructors know each member by their name and they monitor our form especially in the weights area to ensure we are executing the exercises properly. I enjoy the the variety of the workouts so I never get bored although I recognise that they are template based but in terms of my workouts I don't feel that they are repetitive. I really love my workouts at Orangetheory!
