I very much enjoy the facility and the people at Poyner Family Y. Pam Yelverton warrants a special mention for her warmth and encouragement. She sets a tone that her colleagues emulate. Not difficult to choose kindness and warmth, but many people fail to make that choice. Pam's model is contagious for all of us.
When I travel for work, I try to attend Ys nationally. No doubt our facility and people meet or exceed their national peers. A testament to the people themselves today and the hard work and success of the families like the Alexanders, the Finleys, and the Poyners that allowed them to endow such excellent facilities. I don't forget that point when I visit. Generations of those families worked exceptionally hard and later chose to be beneficent. They did not have to share their success, but they did.
I have a note that I would share related to my national experience. In the grand scheme of things, there are more important things. However, the towel service is an exceptional convenience and well worth the money alone. Especially for the hardy few who continue to work in professional attire and try to get in a workout during the workday. Nationally, I bet the trend is to undertake short sighted cost savings by eliminating towel service. Neither Greensboro nor the Vanderbuilt Y in Manhattan have it any longer. I can see how a Board of Directors would reason that labor and materiel expense can be reduced. And they might reach that decision before anyone knows to speak up for the towels. The towels are one of the absolute nicest features that we will miss more than we know if they go. I encourage the Board to resist any calls for eliminating that excellent and long standing part of adding fitness to everyday life. I promote the lowest barriers to fitness I can--towel service lowers the barrier for working people, and it should continue.
Thanks for the chance to acknowledge the warmth and success of Poyner, the generosity of the Poyners, the Alexanders, and the Finleys, and countless others, including the taxpayers of North Carolina through the General Assembly, and the virtue of the towel service as a lowered barrier to fitness.
The hot yoga pilates fusion classes are amazing!
I love the quiet, the small size, and especially Saturday morning Yin. I would love a strength/fit/cardio class there on Saturdays at 9:30. That was a great class when Alexander Y had its floors refinished. If the music would be disruptive for the hot yoga class, instructor could turn down volume. Win-win: less disruption for hot yoga AND we could hear instructor’s cues!!!!! Thank you!
all the sculpt and yoga classes!
Clean, plenty of equipment, and plenty of non-busy timeframes to visit.
Location, clean, no kids

You offer really good and needed classes. A specific shout out to Patrick and the Yin Yoga (warm) classes he teaches/leads. Fantastic. Always needed but very necessary these days.

Great yoga teachers and very friendly staff!
The Poyner YMCA has a great staff, offers connection to a local community, is very clean and doesn't have the crowds that some of the other local gyms have. Great place!
We love the location and the facilities there. We can walk there from our condo even in bad weather. The staff are friendly and helpful.
The facility is very clean and the equipment always in working order ... and the Poyner Family YMCA staff are always friendly and welcoming. This YMCA is also just a few blocks away from where I live and work! 10/10 ... highly recommend.
I love this gym! I only wish there were more freestanding barbells outside of the squat/bench racks.
I love the people they work there, friendly and informative. I love the size and intimacy
Of the facility.

Clean, quiet and interesting classes

Location! Location! Location! Kept my membership because of this location. Good cardio equipment.
Great people working there. Great location. Important to be downtown and serving the burgeoning urbanista growth 'curve'. Also, it's a very nice lay-out and conducive to good workouts. I only have one request: please consider upgrading some of the equipment since there are a few cases where they're older than at other YMCAs in the Triangle.
Great Yoga Yin class...very relaxing!
Wish the downstairs bathrooms were working...is there an elevator?
Yoga classes are so wonderful!!!
