Member Testimonials
It's a family environment! I enjoy working out there!
Ability to use all the branches. Great teachers and excellent classes.
Everyone is nice. It’s clean and I like the classes.
I just joined recently so don’t have much to say. The weight room is well laid out, and the equipment seems well cared for. I like the indoor track. Staff are friendly and helpful. Only complaint, and it’s kind of big, is that either the steam or the sauna room is not functioning every visit.

The people!!
I have not been to the Downtown YMCA in several years as it is not close to my house. (My home gym is Lakewood.) But I like the downtown Y, and recommend it to others.

The variety of members. Pleasant front desk employees.

All your staff is very welcoming and professional which makes for a great environment.
The locker rental setup was great. I forgot my lock at home and as it turned out, I didn’t need one.
The YMCA provides a Safe, Clean, Energizing, Welcoming environment to get strong physically & mentally and make friends. Gives members the opportunity to explore new games & exercises.
Convenience and nice staff
The convenience and kids programming make the Y a great place to be a member.
The friendliness of the staff.
The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating.
I love the Y. They have the kindest front desk people. Anytime I like "ugggg, I don't wanna go to the gym" I remember, "oh right, lovely people will say hello, okay fine, I'll work out."
The environment, staff, and classes. I like that it has a neighborhood and not a corporate feel. I like that older folks and families are there, alongside of the young super-fit gym usuals.
Great equipment.
Location, facilities, staff
Scholarships and the opportunity for kids!
friendly community vibes, nice facilities
Diversity of patrons and staff. Quality of facilities. Out reach programs.
I love the indoor track since I don't like to run outdoors when it's hot or cold, and I can add some strength training on the machines afterwards. All of the Durhams Ys are friendly, welcoming & inclusive. The Y brings together diverse parts of the Durham community. I also love Elie's Lean & Cut classes at Lakewood & HVF Ys & wish there was a similar class downtown. The Downtown location is most convenient for me.
I like everything about the Downtown Durham YMCA. As a member for 25 years and as an 82- year-old senior citizen, I am hoping that the DD YMCA will stay AS-IS, WHERE-IS. This is a fine structure which should be preserved. As a real estate broker in Durham for forty years and as an expert on historic preservation, I can assure everyone that this is solid building which should be maintained and retained in its present location and should NOT be replaced or demolished. My advice is for those in doubt to walk around the track and note the steel framing and rigid structure. Any plans to demolish or replace this building should be discarded now. Thank you. Community outreach
I have been a member for many years now, and I just helped my daughter sign up for a Y membership. She checked out several gyms around town and decided that the Y is the best "vibe" and the best value. I also like that the Y is not "just a gym" - it's really part of the bedrock of Durham as a community. While it's certainly great when the steam room works and the equipment is up-to-date, maintaining the Y's culture of inclusivity and authenticity is just as important. Good job! Thanks!!

Great staff and equipment
