Member Testimonials
The kids are comfortable being on a team with friends and coaches that are familiar. The environment is low pressure, and a great intro to bball for little kids.
The staff and class leaders are very friendly and helpful, and I love that there is an indoor pool with water fitness classes! It is SO helpful that YMCA Downtown Durham has their own parking lot, and other easy nearby options if the lot is full. This was my first visit to a YMCA, and it was a very welcoming experience.
Good class teachers, daycare, equipment in gym
Variety of activities available. Friendly staff.
This is a great place for seniors to come and exercise without worry or being pushed aside by younger members.
I am using this location temporarily while I am working close by. My home Y is NW Cary. I tried the Tobacco Rd location, but found that had limited machines. Found the downtown Durham location to have a very friendly staff, and machines were more robust, with the bonus of having a track.
Facility, Community, free parking
Variety of set up
PLEASE reopen the kids zone during weekday mornings!! Also would be great if the Y could open earlier on Sundays.
It is convenient location wise and has everything I need there.
It's an awesome place to workout , the staff is really nice also thank you
The staff is always friendly and it really feels like a community of people there. There are little touches around the space, like lap counters on the track, that are thoughtful and make it easier to get a workout in.
The people, the exceptional classes and their leaders, the location, the facility
The friendliness of the staff. It's clean mostly and although the steam room was always, closed broke i come. I love the heated pool it works best for me and the location.
Love the new machines. Would like for kids (under 7 or 8) to have supervision on the indoor track
Staff is so friendly and helpful. And it's always clean and welcoming.
Great equipment, helpful staff, friendly members, Thrive classes, pool, track.
Friendly staff
People at the front desk are priceless, giving All people a psychological uplift as they come in and leave.
Kind staff. Clean facilities
Staff is friendly and welcoming, I love my instructor. Members are friendly, a family friendly place.
The group fitness course. The front desk staff are nice and helpful. I enjoy the puzzles and the free food pantry that is available sometimes at the front desk. Nice to see the community taking care of and connecting with each other.
It is close to home.
Location friendly people farvaty of machines to work out on basketball gym. Swimming pool
Great atmosphere and space to do your thing. My only critique is the people in the basketball court can be cliquish and unnecessarily rude to new comers. I wish the dynamic was more welcoming and actually bully free.
Most of all, the people. I see people at the Y that I known for years, and the Y is a great cross section of the city I live in.
The people (staff and participants)
Variety of fitness opportunities
Great equipment and friendly and helpful staff!
I like that the steam room is working properly, I like the new arrangement of the exercise equipment on the floor. I wish there was a machine for doing calves and a machine for doing brdges to exercise buttocks like the one in the Alexander branch in Raleigh. I like the old school lockers at Durham because I can lock it with my padlock for extra security. The staff is always polite and the men's locker room no longer smells like stinky feet.

Downtown YMCA is my favorite building to be in in Durham. I like Lakewood too. Both have been instrumental in my recovery from stroke 14months ago. I love the consistently friendly, encouraging and supportive members and sraff.
