Location, easy access , new area with sauna, hot tub, various pools, and program for all ages. I love it
The new addition-- especially the swimming area---Nice!!
So clean and bright! Nice new “please shower before getting in pool” sign.
Great staff very clean facility and great hours of operation
Friendly employees, pool
It has been a place of POSITIVE COMMUNITY over all these years. (I have been a member since it was built.) Now we have 1/2 of a new, badly-needed building as well. Let's ALL keep the Y a place of POSITIVE COMMUNITY, adjusting to change, cooperating with staff, following procedures, getting exercise in a busy parking lot without complaining or breaking rules, teaming together, etc.
The staff are friendly and professional. The other people who work out don't bother each other or make negative comments. The facilities are clean and highly functional. There are opportunities for all people.
Many different classes.
I like the new pool and the new water aerobics teacher.
I've been a member since 1982; so for me, it's an ingrained habit to come at least four days a week, even if it's just to shower. I exercise my jaw just about as much as my body most days ;)
I miss the old upstairs locker room a lot though. The new locker room is way too small for the amount of lockers in it and the amount of people it needs to service at one time. My new motto is "If there are two people in here, it's crowded!" The new lockers are great though! The showers need more hooks or a shower caddy, and I'm anxious for the installation of new shower heads for better water pressure. I know they are in house.
The new hot tub will never be as good as the old one, but it's better than when it first opened. You could say I'm warming up to it ;) It would help if it were deeper. The lazy river is awfully short. It's more like a lazy loop. The only thing I use it for is to put my back up against the strong jets! And the lap pool is too cold for me. I can do a shorter swim in it, and then I move to the instructional pool to finish up!
Availability of drop in adult group fitness classes without need to pre register and pool lap swim based on availability. Enjoy the instructors!
Very friendly. Clean
Good variety of options, warm, friendly, knowledgeable staff & trainers.
The programs you offer have been incredible for my children. They are both difficult special needs kids, but your instructors have been patient, helpful, and kind. They both love the classes they have been able to take.
This is the best, brightest, cleanest, awesomest pool ! Thank you!
All the extra space! New pool.
We enjoy the programs like Enhanced Fitness and various senior classes. Having a group of people to play pickleball on a regular basis is also great. Great community. The new pool and weights area are great. Having so many options is well worth the price of membership.
The thing I like most about the Pearl Street Y is that most of the staff is very friendly. We've visited the other Y's in the area and this one has the most consistent staff by far. Also, I like the new building with the pool and weight room equipment. I wish the bathrooms in the old building would reopen, because it's more convenient when you're working out on the track or the machines upstairs to just go there rather than going back down. I like that you're trying to update the facilities.
Most of the staff at this location are so helpful and inclusive. That means a lot. Not all of the YMCA locations are like that. Horrible experience with the YMCA Woodinville location. I said I would never go to another YMCA but Pearl Street changed my mind.
Great staff, competent and friendly.
Very nice facility. We normally use the UWT Y but it was closed so tried the Pearl Street Y. Large and spacious weight room (which we used) and complete swimming/water recreation area (didn't use). The only drawback (and it maybe temporary due to the construction) is the large distance (between buildings) we had to travel between the weight and cardio areas. At the UWT Y, these are adjacent if not integrated which is very convenient. On whole though, a very nice facility and will be happily using it when we need to. Thanks, Tom Hubbell.
I returned to the Y during the pandemic. It was a game changer. I got the exercise I was focused on and something else unexpected happened. I made friends and forged a community with people who enriched my life. I am still going daily, I am a swimmer.
The new facility is FABOULOUS, the people are what keep me coming back everyday. It is the staff and the members who make the Pearl Street Y the best place to be in Tacoma.
Very good experience with the company
The classes and the friendly people
it is getting better. The new space is wonderful for weights and pool. men's locker room is too small but I know you are waiting for phase two. also glad to see the car chargers are now operational. that is great to be able to charge car while working out.
Staff, weight room and pool
The facilities, especially the new Aqua Center and Strength and Conditioning facility is amazing! When I swim laps, I observe the lifeguards and am impressed by their focus and professionalism. The staff are friendly and go out of their way to welcome and assist you whenever you need help. It is an inclusive place where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. Finally, the classes and workshops offered are varied and appealing.
It has been wonderful to have access to multiple yoga classes each week.
Love the new aquatic center. Best in the area by far.
