The organization of the workout equipment.
What I like the most is it’s not overly crowded when I get there it separate rooms to use the Exercise machines! Front desk workers are so friendly! Scott he’s one of my favorite he remembers names way before you check in and out!
Friendly staff. Love my Zumba class!
Friendly and clean
Variety of activities
The equipment is buried and in good repair. The facilities are clean. There are a variety of activities as well as individual opportunities.
new pool
Variety
Love the new weight room but why no 2-1/2 lb increments on dumbbells? Also need more wipe stations on weight room floor.
Only been once. Still evaluating.
Easy access. Nice equipment. Great people
I'm new to the Y, but I love going to the pool and sauna after I workout!!
Equipment recommendations for strength area include sand bags, rope that can be attached to the sled for pulling across turf, ski erg, bike erg, and row machine. All of these are utilized in hyrox training which is one of the fastest growing fitness competitions.
I am a middle-aged male who uses the weight room and cardio machines quite a bit at the y y glaring problem for me about the new West building exercise area is there is literally no cardio machines at all to do a warm-up before a strength session or a cool down after the strength session. That means that if I do want to warm up on a cardio machine I have to go to the east building and then walk outside in the cold in the winter. Get over the strength area cuz warm up and cool now in our essential parts of my strength conditioning routines.
Another aspect and this is pretty simple and very specific to me. But one reason why I prefer University of Washington Tacoma YMCA is because it has a skierg machine which I use as part of my warm-up conditioning and training given that I participate in CrossFit, skiing, and hirox activities. It may seem small, but this is maybe the main reason why I'm going to choose to not come to this YMCA and instead go to the UW Tacoma YMCA.
The new building is beautiful and very functional. Excellent locker room and shower area. The new lap pool is perfect! Bright and the water is perfect temperature, clear with no chemical smell at all. With the other pools this must be the nicest and most family friendly indoor aquatic facility in the city. Very well done!
Friendly staff, clean facilities, quality equipment that allows me to train safely and effectively.
I really like the variety of classes that are being offered and times that catch a lot of the member's schedule.
The staff is great!! I love the new aquatics facility!! Very friendly and convenient to my house!!
Group exercise classes and weights
Having been there on Opening Day of the Morgan YMCA in the 70s I have a strong attachment to the Y. It’s availability has enabled me to take good care of myself over the years since.
Friendly and respectful staff! All very helpful and safety-focused. I enjoy the opportunity to come work out, but my preference is to walk outside 2/3 miles with my walking sticks and breathe in the fresh air.
Your new addition is beautiful!
The new pool is fantastic and I love the new showers in the locker room too.
The Pearl Street Y is near my house, the new section is fantastic and they have an activity for everyone.
Bagful news facility!
Good facilities, friendly people, inclusive atmosphere
The new facilities are a major boost to the Landscape of Tacoma. I am so proud our community could make this happen. The pool in particular is spectacular for ALL ages.
The new equipment and so big!!
The new pool site is great, spacious, & welcoming
New Showers - SAFETY CONCERN
We visited the YMCA new pool facility and loved it. Thanks for this resource in our community. Did notice the new showers have almost like a closet closed type design. Appreciate the privacy especially with our three small kids, but the door spanning the floor to the ceiling struck me as odd and a safety concern. Without visibility of feet at the bottom I could see someone having a medical emergency go unnoticed, a child getting locked in there unnoticed, or other nefarious activities. I would think you would want feet visible in case someone collapsed or in case you needed to get in and unlock the door during an emergency.

Great community! All staff members are friendly and kind. Love the new pool. Didn’t think I would like the lazy river, but going against the current is great exercise.
The new locker rooms are quite far from the entrance. While there is nothing to be done about that now I do have some other safety concerns. There are only 3 full private dressing/shower areas in the family side. I hear people say how long they wait for access. In the women’s locker room, the new benches are heavy and difficult to move for some of us. (I really miss the metal stools that could be easily stacked to make more room.) More, if not all, of the showers need grab bars. The zero entrance to the pool needs a hand rail. Thank you for the beautiful building. PS, the sidewalk leading into checkout needs to be wider.
