well run..good staff....clean
Attractive facility, lots of equipment, convenient schedule of classes.
Signing up for classes can be a problem. My favorite class is Pilates Fusion with Erica, and the class is always full. Often, if you don't sign up within a few minutes (11:30-11:35) the class is full and the waitlist of full! Perhaps a bigger room would help?
The instructors are so attentive to the kids. Just a great atmosphere at the facility with everyone so helpful, courteous and happy!
I can only speak to the young children's program. The entire program has improved since Kayla Ferrara was put in charge. The teachers are well trained, the lessons are well structured, and above all, the teachers are excellent. They watch each child not only for how they are doing with the instruction - they watch each child for safety. I recently saw Kaitlin stay with a child who was tired as she finished a lap, while also keeping her eye on the other children. Recently saw Emma hold a child who was tired, scared and crying, as she guided her back to the edge. The child then began to feel better and went back in ready for more instruction. These are little children and sometimes, after a whole day at school are not at their best. Swimming is a very energetic activity, and breathing - or more to the point, the timing while learning when to breath during a stroke can be exhausting.
I am happy to see that safety and fun are their first priority. Following on this is excellent swim instruction.
The gymnastics team at the cape Ann ymca is the only reason I kept the YMCA membership for my family. My daughter gets so much out of each class. The staff is knowledgeable, hands on , polite, helps set and achieve goals (even in a toddler class) they promote safe and challenging play. They create a new obstacle coarse each class to create new challenges and more creativity for the kids. They seem genuinely happy to be there and help my child grow mentally and physically. My family almost left the YMCA because we were so disappointed in other areas of the Y and how it has changed for the worse but after much thought and watching how much my child has grown and truly enjoys her gymnastics class we realized this class.is not only challenging her and helping her achieve new milestones but they have become her friends. She looks forward to that class so much and honestly suffers the weeks she is unable to attend. HUGE thank you to the gymnastics staff for being so amazing.

It’s such a nice inviting environment with so many great activities & exercise options. NOTE: Don’t care for weight machines facing each other so you are staring face to face with others as you’re trying to concentrate while working out.

Great equipment, facility and people. It's a nice place to go to feel connected and relieve the daily stress and grind. There are plenty of programs, of all types. Such a beneficial resource for the Cape Ann community.
The Junior Celtics was a great introduction to basketball and team sports in general for our little 3 year old. His ability to listen to the coaches and follow instructions was awesome to observe as well as his enthusiasm and confidence that continued to grow each week!
Clean, friendly, great classes
I love all the different types of classes and the weight room area and the pool is so nice! I just love the new YMCA we are all so lucky to have this new beautiful building. The staff is always so nice an accommodating. Cassie is the best!
I thought that the Celtics program was wonderful, Austin did a great job running such a large program on his first year. Having the championship during school vacation was a little tough, maybe change that date for next year? I find the open gym and open swim schedule esp during vacation weeks to be very hard to understand. I wish they would have a special vaca week print up online so that we could utilize more of the Y during that time. Overall, it has been great!

Just great
Austin the head coach of Jr. Celtics was super friendly, informative and great with the kids. He led a high energy team of coaches as intently focused on imparting social skills as introducing new basketball drills, which they celebrated together as notable achievements at the end of the season. My child got to play with her school friends and make new ones before kindergarten starts next year which makes me happy. The Y is such a great place for generations to gather-- I was happy to be able to make both playdates and gym dates with the parents we know as well as to see unknown but friendly faces grow friendlier when I kept showing up to join them in getting on a good sweat and smile together, (especially during the fun pop up events that have been happening this winter, like the mini-retreat where I had a lovely introduction to Strength, Cycle, Yoga classes all at once. I started coming to the Y to rehab a knee injury and the spin coach Vanessa could not have been more inclusive or attentive to ensure that everyone in attendance got just what they needed. It was a lovely afternoon and I'm always fortunate to have the kids club available though my favorite times are spent playing in the pool with my daughter Helena as she grows confidence swimming and meeting new families. This week, we met a couple from Minas Gerais who were as happy to converse in English as we were to engage in Portuguese that I'm hopeful we'll see again inside and outside the Y. We are so lucky not only to have such a beautiful new building, but within it, a community center that extends beyond its walls and is truly a hub for all to enjoy fitness, family, friends and the faith-- that all you need to keep growing is to keep going. xxoo Thank you for everything.
Great location and great facility!
It’s a great facility with a nice staff. It has everything I want and need to stay active and healthy. The space is bright and makes me feel happy. My only suggestion: the men’s locker room needs more attention. I feel like the floor and benches need to be sanitized several times a day. There are very few places to sit down or set a duffel bag, and when men sit naked on the benches - things need to be cleaned! I highly recommend more benches, and having them permanently bolted to the floor.
