Like so many other ’90s kids, I grew up at the local YMCA, and honestly, I loved it. I still carry so many memories from those years that I’ll cherish forever. One of the things I appreciated most was the freedom to try so many different activities in one place—without fear of failure or the pressure of bouncing from location to location.
So when my daughter expressed interest in volleyball, I already knew exactly where to take her. It ended up being an even easier decision when we realized so many of her friends were already playing there. Over the past few years, she’s been part of multiple teams and has experienced different coaching styles, which I truly believe helped shape her into a well-rounded player.
Now, as we explore competitive club volleyball, that foundation really shows. Even without prior club experience, she consistently stands out at tryouts and is identified as one of the top players because of her versatility, adaptability, and strong fundamentals—especially when compared to peers who’ve only played under one coach or team.
I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities the YMCA has provided my daughter, and we’re looking forward to every season she has left before she ages out.

Great instructors at every facility. They really take as much time with each student as possible. My son was not into sports at all but he loves his golf lessons each week.
Northwest has everything you need to work out and the personal trainers are awesome
My daughter has really enjoyed the coaching and her teammates. I think the time of day is really good for us as well and its a great way to experience a sport before diving all in!
