Member Testimonials
Everything is exceptional at UMLY, the instructors, staff, and buildings.
The staff is always very friendly and supportive. My fiancee have both recently had spine surgeries and were in need of financial assistance as we were on medical leave from work. I spend a lot of time in the pool and am always able to get a lane and am grateful that there are stairs in C pool so I can get in and out of the water easily.
I like the classes and the people are very friendly
The training sessions.
I struggled for many years searching for a gym to cater to my needs as a strength athlete. After multiple stops at various local gyms, I have now found a home at the Upper Main Line YMCA. Jonathan (Director of Wellness), Ryan and Tina are the most genuine, selfless and caring individuals you will ever come across and have made it their mission to provide Upper Main Line YMCA members with the best possible fitness experience. The Upper Main Line YMCA provides an array of diverse machines and strength equipment that will cater to the needs of any potential member. Whether you are a novice lifter, athlete, powerlifter, older patient looking to stay healthy, weekend warrior or just an everyday gym-goer, the Upper Main Line YMCA has what you need to achieve the best possible version of yourself. Take it from me, I drive roughly 35 minutes every day to train here.
The Upper Main Line YMCA has a vast array of strength machines, kettlebells, medicine balls, deadlift barbells, hex bars, TRX, dumbbells up to 130 pounds, bumper plates, power racks, pullup bars, cable machines, ropes, foam rollers, sleds and an area to perform agility and speed drills. The Upper Main Line YMCA provides much of the same equipment you will find at a traditional CrossFit or Performance Gym at nearly half the cost!
The Upper Main Line YMCA actually has 2 separate gyms. On the top floor is the Wellness Center that houses all your cardio needs, multiple strength training machines, squat racks and dumbells. Meanwhile, towards the back of the building, lies a hidden gem referred to as the Power and Conditioning Room. This is where the magic happens and this where I find myself spending the majority of my time. The Power and Conditioning Room has all your athletic needs from bumper plates to power racks to deadlift platforms to medicine balls. The deadlift platforms are state of the art, built to absorb any amount of force, allowing members the opportunity to perform deadlifts and Olympic lifts without having to worry about quietly dropping the weight. The Power and Conditioning Room is truly a strength athletes paradise. Upper Main Line YMCA Director of Wellness Jonathan recently described to me that the Power and Conditioning Room is (I am paraphrasing here) "The member's room. We built this room with one goal in mind, how can we best cater to what our members want. Everything you see in this room was brought in because the members asked for it and we are constantly adding to this room based on what our members ask for."
Not many gyms can say they have a "members room" and that is one of the reasons the Upper Main Line YMCA is such a special place.
Lastly, it is essential to mention the personal trainers and wellness staff that members see on a day to day basis. Jonathan has put together a kind, caring, helpful and selfless personal training staff that has one goal in mind: put the members first. Unlike most gyms, at the Upper Main Line YMCA you as a member are not bombarded with constant sales pitches from trainers or out of this world personal training rates. The trainers are always there willing and able to help the members in any way they can so don't be afraid to ask!
I cannot even begin to express my deepest gratitude and appreciation for everything Jonathan, Ryan and Tina have done to make my experience at the Upper Main Line YMCA so incredible. I can finally say I found a place to call home.

The variety of programs during tge day on weekdays and the magic carpet for CELC students
YMCA swim lessons are the best! In stage 4 my daughter is building stamina and learning proper stroke technique with a supportive instructor. Thank you for being an integral part of teaching this life skill.
The kids area and pools. Mary in the kids place is amazing! My kids love her!
Your Mini-Porpoise class is the best training yet that I’ve observed at UMLY. Not only is the instructor highly competent, but she cares deeply about each child reaching his/her potential.
Danielle (Yentz) and Vince (Miller) went above and beyond to make to ensure that after a negative experience, my son’s transition back to group swim lessons was seamless. They both joined in his first group lesson and worked with all of the kids as well as the coach for the whole 30-minute lesson. Talk about unexpected, and wholly appreciated!

Instructors are fantastic - especially for beginners. All personnel friendly and helpful. Financial aid office far exceeded my expectations, so I could join to, late in life, and start a committed work-out program with others.
