From the point of scheduling my move to the move itself everyone at Meat Head Movers behaved in a highly professional manner with an emphasis on customer satisfaction. I have already recommended them to several friends.
We reached out to Meathead because my mom, Kim, has hired previously & it was important to her that college students received the benefit of our move over other professional options. Historically, I've hired a different service for our moves, both business & personal, but Kim wanted to help out college students; she's had great experiences with Orange County Meathead Movers.
The tone of our day was set when Meathead finally arrived on-site; 40 minutes late. Rather than apologizing & facing the lateness, the crew came in saying that we had way too much stuff for a 4 hour move & that they'd only be making one trip with the truck so we needed to prioritize what we wanted moved.
So, first off, we never said this was a 4 hour move; 4 hours is the Minimum that Meathead charges for - that's where 4 hours came from - not from us. Second, prioritize my stuff to be moved? Maybe toward the end of the day; but to show up to the site saying that? No.
That happened a few times. The crew would tell me that they had 3 hours left before they had to leave for the warehouse, allowing for 2 hours of travel. Then, 15 minutes later, they told my wife they only had 30 minutes left; they probably didn't realize that Kim was my mom and Jill was my wife - we talked.
Lastly, when the bill came, of course, hours have been fudged. The crew claimed a 30 minute lunch. However, it was actually a 40 minute lunch for 2 of them and 60 for the other 2; when they came back in the pickup truck, it took about 20 minutes for the 2 to unlock the large truck and get the ramps out - the other two hung out at the pickup while this was happening.
Normally, I wouldn't bring this up, but since we were charged for 30 minutes of Overtime, it made me laugh when I saw that only 30 minutes for Lunch was being claimed.
Because the crew was SLOW. So slow, in fact, that we had to help load and unload elevators, etc. There was Meathead hustle toward the end of the shift, when the kids wanted to head home, but their feet dragged the rest of the day.
Furthermore, I'm pretty sure two of the guys were pretty new; one didn't know how to wheel around our fridge; the wheels are straight in the back and steerable in the front but he was attempting to push it sideways. The crew leader was having to do double work moving things herself then stopping to redirect these two new guys.
All in all, this was our fault in that Meathead isn't really geared for office moves. As a new customer, my experience was that Meathead is really great for when someone needs some help moving, but will still be doing the lion's share of the work; like, if someone isn't a member of a church or club or have other friends that can help them move, call Meathead.
Kim's heart was in the right place, picking Meathead over the other mover we had scope out the project, but no good deed goes unpunished, as they say. With the fudged overtime, we blew past the quote from the other company we had lined up. They would've sent a bit more of an experienced crew and the job would've been done within the allotted time.
The Meathead crew seemed to forget that we also wanted to go home and weren't expecting this basic move to take literally all day. But again, kids; we should've anticipated that.
Very prompt professional when booking. Willing to lower minimum time for move, therefore lower cost. The student movers were very personable, prompt, professional. Excellent job!

Always on time, courteous and efficient moves.
We had an amazing first experience, but the second time was less than we expected unfortunately. You can’t determine who you have as movers but this experience our movers not only didn’t utilize the truck space but they also didn't pack nearly as much as they could have into the truck. Even when they unloaded the truck into the storage unit, they didn’t stack and organize it efficiently utilizing the space. We’re grateful for the bigger pieces being taken care of, but we have more work ahead of us than we expected and it will also cost us more to finish the job whether it’s getting a uhaul or an additional storage container, or having to unload and repack the storage unit ourselves. We were disappointed with our second experience but hopefully if we use them again we will be able to avoid this.

The worst experience I have ever had in my life, and I still can't find my bedroom lamps. How do I get a replacement for my missing lamps? I've gone through every box and they are nowhere to be found, and all they did was move my stuff to the garage.
Still can't find my bedroom lamps. They are missing, and my things only went to the garage. The Packers were horrible instead of doing a tea pot in the lid in the same box. They are not the one girl that came didn't know how to pack it. all was going to put an unwrapped China doll in a box with a cast iron pan, the movers all they did was gossip about employees at meathead movers. I tipped them highly I said them lunch and it was the most awful experience I've ever had the price was so expensive and again I still cannot find my bedroom lamps.

They did a great job of communicating what was happening and were very responsive to listen to all our requests. The moving crew were much faster and more efficient that we expected, sometimes carrying stacks of boxes at once!
Planning and scheduling was thorough and representative very helpful in leading me through the process. Crew arrived on time and I have never seen anyone work so hard straight through to the end of the job. Each man was friendly and helpful. Each did a thorough job of preparing items and keeping them safe.

On the plus side: VERY flexible with my dates, SLO vs. local, PODs versus trucking it to the destination. That was incredibly helpful because these critical components were unknowns that needed to come together in a very short time frame. The athletes were able to fit all my belongings into the two PODs, which for me was a miracle because I was so worried that it wouldn’t happen. They actually only needed a sliver of the second POD because they packed things so tightly in the first POD. They were also able to have things packed up in time for PODs to pick it up on Friday to go to PODs local storage facility, which means my PODs weren’t going to be sitting at the reserve until Monday.
On the minus side: The 3 young movers showed little enthusiasm, especially Jose A, who seemed to be truly bothered by having to do his job. None of them did the motto “run when not moving boxes”, actually strolled at the pace of an elderly person. Did not come up to the third-floor with all their supplies (like tape), did not bring a door stopper for the heavy front door (I made a makeshift stopper), did not bring their own water bottles (luckily, I had bought some, which is unusual for me), were checking their cell phones almost continually, placed their tools on top of my valuables without protection of a blanket, needed to be reminded to protect and wrap furniture, used my own hand-truck that I needed to use to pack up my Jeep for things I took with me.
While the lead mover was preparing the invoice, the other two were sitting in their truck with their cell phones. I walked out to tell him there were still things left that needed to be packed up in the POD, as well as leaving behind one of their water bottles and a roll of tape in the common area.
HOWEVER, because of the positive aspects, which were very important, I gave each one a $20 tip.
HOWEVER, right after they left, I went upstairs to close the window and turn off the light, only to see they didn’t grab all of the stuff in the loft! By now, both PODs were picked up for storage. The items in the loft were too big to put in my car and way too heavy for me to carry. I called Meathead, but no help was available. I explained the items left behind - my furniture dolly, 2 sliding door cat door inserts, and the original door from my 1922 home in San Francisco (weighs a ton and is huge). I have no choice except to have the property manager throw it away because my lease ended that day and to be fined by them for their disposal labor. I told the meathead rep that I’d be sending in a bill for what I will be charged by property management. I should have treated the athletes like children by doing a double check that they cleared out the items they left behind the first time I told them. HOWEVER, Meathead is the professional, not me, and the team fell miserably short in basic steps.

Maybe a little bit more explanation of what info needs to be provided before the move. Was unaware we needed to specify if there would be a walkway to the moving areas vs door to door and there almost had to be a change order because of it. Would have been really frustrated if my price changed due to information I didn’t know I had to provide. Other wise the workers were great and helpful. They had an issue getting the bed taken apart and asked for my help but I would rather that than not ask for help and breaking the bed! I think the quality of service for the price is great and would suggest to anyone that needs help moving their big items.
