Member Testimonials
I love the classes, sense of community, the fact that the staff is intentional in greeting each member by name. Going to the Y is the best part of my day. Seeing new and old friends and doing something that makes me feel good.
The people and the fact that there’s room between the machines!
I appreciate the employees and their ability to connect with the Y members. I drive from Oak Cliff (and sometimes FW) just to exercise at this location. I hope the building will not go up for sale as we're hearing.
I love the Classes and Workout Equipment.
Friendly Staff Paula, Rod and others.🥰
Location, Facility & Amenities, & Equipment are Unmatched in the Downtown/Uptown area. A few cosmetic updates and maintenance would help the facility continue to serve the community.
I would be remiss to not mention first and foremost the Staff. All the staff members are attentive and efficient. For 40 years at the Downtown “Y”, I have been treated courteously and respectfully.
The facility itself is unmatched in the area. There’s something for everyone. Nothing like it anywhere. I’ve been to YMCAs all over the country….nothing like our Downtown “Y”. Period!
The location is perfectly located to accommodate people from all parts of the city. If I don’t feel like driving, I can take the train and walk two blocks. What’s not to like about that?!
Very nice gym, very nice people. Could use a little upgrade, but still worth the money
The T. Boone Pickens YMCA is a well equipped facility with great group instructors located in a convenient location for access both at lunch and after work (my office is in the Arts District). While I understand that it may be economically unfeasible to continue to maintain the existing building, you will lose me as a member if the YMCA does not continue to maintain an exercise facility in downtown Dallas.
Spacious and well equipped. Diverse clientele focused on fitness.
i've been a member since 1976. It's a great place for fellowship.
I love the group classes- especially the yoga classes taught by Anthony.
I think the T. Boone Pickens Y is a valuable asset to its community. I do not want it to close. I go to that Y 4-5 days per week.
I like all the work out space and options. I like the stream, whirlpool and sauna.
Convenient to Uptown.
Wide variety of facilities.
Always clean and well lit
Professional staff
The people who work there are wonderful. They are knowledgeable and friendly, just great people!
Develop new friendships and well as maintain long-lasting friendships while keeping mind and body sound.
Good equipment, friendly staff.
CONVIENCE and EASY PARKING from my Oak Lawn location to downtown.
Service to youth and growing downtown population.
Serves tremendous market area from central, superior historic location.
Been paying monthly dues since leaving Air Force approximately 1969 except short interval in Feb-Aug 1994 after Northridge Earthquake when I was stationed in Sacramento with SBA Disaster Team. I'm VERY ALARMED at any thought of selling prized downtown property, especially if it's to a church organization or Russian oligarchs. T. Boone Pickens was a great benefactor. Surely there are others similar to him.who can help in a well-designed marketing/development plan to put and keep our HISTORIC Y on sound financial footing.
I think it is a travesty to sell the Y facility and not replace it with at least a smaller one in downtown AS PROMISED WHEN THE LISTING FOR SALE WAS ANNOUNCED SEVERAL YEARS AGO.
I have been a member of this Y much of the time since it opened in about 1980. Besides serving those of us who live in or near downtown, it also serves a minority community that obviously prefers it to the two mentioned in South Dallas in the recent Dallas News article. Especially on Saturday's I see Black and Hispanic fathers or both parents with children there interacting in all areas.
Where is the feeling of responsibility to try to help address the number one cause of criminal behavior in minorities--the lack of a father figure in the family? Also, how egregious to openly basically say to unofficially segregate minorities to Y facilities in certain minority neighborhoods!
I am an "old" white woman who was born and grew up in segregated Dallas. We have come a long way, and now the Y is going to reverse this trend? Egregious!
Great staff. Plentiful racquetball courts!
Got everything
I would have loved to have remained a member at the T. Boone Pickens YMCA, however, the workout classes I was interested in (Spin Classes) did not have times that would be suitable for my current work schedule. Like many others, I work 8-5 Monday- Friday and the times of the classes all began after 8 am and before 5 pm. Due to this, I had to cancel my membership. If there is an opportunity for the addition of more classes outside of the times I mentioned, I would be happy to reconsider joining again. Thank you!
I like using the T. Boone Pickens YMCA downtown Dallas because it is convenient to my job and they have all the amenities that I need to accomplish my workout needs.
I understand that the building is old and in need of some serious repairs and I can see why the building is for sale and based on rumors it has sold.
I plan to move on to another workout place since I am not close to the other YMCA's in the area nor do they have what the downtown Y offers.
Thanks
George Rodriguez
The Y is integral to the downtown. It brings together every walk of life, offers health, safety and friendship. It’s open, fun, inspiring and with a very little investment could be much bigger and spread its influence to an even larger audience. More equipment, more classes across many fitness and lifestyle genres and continue to bring people together. The downtown Y needs to live on in downtown Dallas and downtown Dallas needs the Y. Please let it continue..
I’ve been a member for 28 years!
I work next door so it’s very convenient.
Love the classes and staff !!!!
It's a great plae for those who like to swim. It has the best workout pool in town.
Place is awesome. Great facilities. Diverse group of members. Friendly employees.
Friendly staff and good facilities
I love the atmosphere and the friendly environment. And the cleaness
I have been a member since sometime in the 1980s. I am tardy in weighing in on the discussion of the future of the downtown facility. I am a huge believer in the importance of an affordable downtown facility. I am another real estate lawyer so I am not a pollyana on the reality of the fall-off in membership since COVID. But I am recalling a time in the recent past when the Y was vibrant with a diverse members . An atmosphere where socioeconomic differences were minimized, if not eliminated . Proud Black fathers introducing their sons to the gym; lots of friendly banter, etc. The membership has fallen off but all that stuff is still there. I hope we have fully evaluated the situation before losing what we have. And if we do lose it we must have a viable alternative. I am 73 and willing to put my money where my mouth is.
Amazing
the staff, the pool, the equipment, the members

I've been a member since 1990 and made many friends here along the way here with my run, swim and other workouts. The staff is fantastic and the facility has everything under one roof--we need to insure this treasure remains in place going forward in the future.
