I am currently part of the Undergrads program for 18-20 year olds and I absolutely love the School of Rock!! Although I have played bass guitar on and off for 3 years. This past season (fall/winter of 2023) was my first season playing at the School of Rock and my first time in a band.
Being at the School of Rock has drastically improved my playing very quickly. The one-on-one lessons allow me to work on techniques that I am interested in as well as work on parts of songs that are difficult to me. TJ (my bass instructor) is amazing! He teaches both necessary technical aspects and personal aspects of being a bass player.
The group lessons allow me to collaborate with other musicians around my age and learn how to play in a band, which might not sound like much, but playing in a band is VERY different from playing on your own. The group thrives together and everyone depends on each other. Because of this dependency, everyone is encouraged to learn their parts so that they keep up with the group. My bandmates all encourage each other to be better. Something to keep in mind is that communication is VERY important. Communicating with your instructor, director, and bandmates is what allows the music to come together correctly. We know when we make mistakes (oftentimes difficult parts for one instrument are difficult for others as well) and we all figure out ways to overcome these difficulties together.
Jessi, the director of Undergrads, is incredible and helps us all stay on track. She has a wonderful knowledge of music and is very thoughtful. Jessi helps us learn our cues, helps bridge some gaps in communication when they do happen, and thoughtfully critiques our playing, all which help us improve our playing and understanding of the music and each other.
Overall, the School of Rock is absolutely incredible and I recommend it to anyone who is interested in playing an instrument. Something to note is that you definitely must have time to practice outside of class! Playing at the School of Rock is a thrilling experience that I look forward to every week.

The camaraderie formed by all the amateur musicians playing is awesome! We are all from different backgrounds, financial situations and levels of playing experience but music brings us all together as friends. Topped off by our upbeat, Fun Director, . Pat, School of Rock truly makes for a wonderful experience.
The programs are all fantastic but most of all for us, is the very people that run School of Rock in Westlake. They are the best of the best in my opinion. The caring and concern that goes into each and every kid that comes through that door, second to none. Thank you!!!!
School of Rock is amazing for so many reasons. My kids loves it - and it is truly for everyone! Everyone fits in and is accepted for who they are!

Love them. Obviously I love it when the bands are smaller and my kids are more prominent. But the classes and school is run very well and I’ve recommended many people to it and promote the school as often as I can.
I love that Chris and Julian and the rest of the crew are truly invested in these kids. You can tell they really care and really enjoy what they do.
Your programs teach children the value in teamwork, positivity, confidence in their abilities and how to uplift others. School of Rock is so much more than music.

My daughter loves having Noah as an instructor, and as a parent, I'm impressed by his communication not only with the kids, but with the parents as well. I feel that school of Rock has really helped to boost my child's confidence and meet kids with similar interests. I'm very grateful for the staff, and I know my child will carry this experience with her for the rest of her life.
Great teachers who really care about their students. I really like the Rookies program where my son can get acquainted with multiple instruments before choosing which direction he wants to go to continue his music education
Love the confidence this program has instilled in my daughter. teachers are great! Content is tailored to what hte kids want to play. They make is super fun and collaborative. Cannot say enough about how important this program is to teenagers like my daughter and it is very fun for the parents to see their progress!

I like many things about the programs at S.O.R westside and our experience is very positive. From the friendly helpful staff at the entrance to the patient, experience of the individual instructors that work there, they have created a wonderful learning environment. The performance-based approach to music education is an incredible concept and experience for the students.
Pat, the SOR West Grad program director is doing an excellent job coordinating our rehearsal sessions Monday evening. He did a great job making sure that our sound was good and consistent at our performance on Jan 6th.

I love that kids can learn, but also able to perform in real shows. This is the #1 advantage over all other music schools my son has attended. He is so excited to be a part of School of Rock family

Being able to interact and play live with other musicians makes the learning a pleasure. It makes it real and makes it fun.
very flexible in working with my student as an individual. Not just at her skill level, but considering
her personal interest and comfort levels. it is a little pricey for my budget but worth every penny!!
