I love this Y. It's not luxurious, but I've found the employees to be friendly and happy.
Convenient, well equipped, friendly and helpful staff, family atmosphere, yoga and other classes.
We primarily use the downtown durham YMCA because our daughter swims with YOTA and my husband and I use the upstairs gym facilities twice a week. YOTA is an amazing team that our daughter thoroughly enjoys. She is happy that the pool was recently cleaned and painted. The gym facilities are nicely equipped, well-maintained and clean. I wish the space was a bit larger as it can certainly get crowded during peak hours of the day. It would be great if there could be more parking.

I also use the Asheville Y, and the people who work there are just as nice, but the people who go there are not. Don't know what the problem is.
This is a great Y. Always has been. I've belonged since 1987 (used to go to Lakewood).

Terrific staff, large, well-stocked facility.
I love that even though the building is showing some wear and tear, I get to work out with lots of different people from different cultures and backgrounds. To me, it's the ultimate Durham Experience. It's not the classic cookie cutter experience of fancy gyms full of people who aren't very friendly and expensive memberships for stuff I never use. I was a member of those kinds of Jim's for years before I joined the Y. I also love that the front desk is always so friendly and I love chatting with Wilson. I also love to see all the community support with signage and free food, etc.

The staff at this location is very welcoming, friendly and helpful! I am always greeted with a smile and have received help when requested—from opening my locker when I have misplaced my key to providing assistance when items have been carelessly left by me or my friends. I also appreciate all the activities that are planned for the members at this location! I have also noticed that when I or others regular members have missed lots of days, the staff always let us know that we have been missed!! I love this location and hope that more money can be allocated to improve this facility to equal much newer YMCA’s.
