My cousin the late Barbara Miller was a longtime member of the Y!! Barbara had many friends there and participated in many of the classes. She passed away in September 2024
Returning to the Y without her was unimaginable!! After several months . I decided to return to the Y because Barbara would have wanted me to.she believed in good health and exercise!

Professional staff, cleanliness and friendly atmosphere
The swim coaching is great. I am an adult swimmer and Perry does a wonderful job at instruction. You can even join a training group after lessons are over to keep the motivation going. Some hard things have been happening in life, so the activity is proving to be a good outlet. I'm also new to the area and the center has a great community feel. I would recommend this location.

The staff is very friendly and helpful! I took an group class and the instructor was easy to follow along with. I felt very comfortable taking the class and I am not an outgoing person. I will be taking more classes.
There are loads of classes and the new equipment in the weight room is amazing. The facility is super clean and well maintained and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Facilities and staff are top notch
I love the Nir Family Y - the people are always friendly and courteous. The facility is always clean. The instructors are great - Leandra, Katie, Alicia, Will and the new Aquatic Zumba instructor Marisol. I attended the Aquatic Zumba this morning and it was great all attendees seem to love the class and Marisol.
I would like to make a recommendation for the 7:15 am slot at the family pool Tuesday and Thursday to be Aquatic Zumba. My wife and I would probably attend at least one class a week or maybe two on days we decide to double up (7:15 and 8:15) because we also like Leandra's class.
Thank you for getting the large fan at the family pool fixed and the sauna at the men's locker room repaired. After the floor have been replaced, there is a step down and step up going in and out of the sauna. There is a sign outside to watch your step - can I make a suggestion - can we please paint the step up / down with yellow paint that would serve as a caution for us oldies before an accident happens - PLEASE!!
My wife mentioned that the steam room at the women's locker room has not yet been fixed maybe for 3+ weeks. My only negative comment about the Nir Family Y at this time is it takes a little bit too long to get things fixed (large ceiling? fan at the family pool, women's locker steam room, etc.). I understand that there are constraints and limitations - just adding my two cents.
Overall - we are 100% very happy with the Nir Family Y. We appreciate having a nice facility and wonderful staff and friendly Y members. It is a wonderful facility to help us get fit and with the pool, steam room and sauna helps us shorten the winter cold weather.

The YMCA has activities, fitness, and health programs for every age group. I am a youthful senior, and I have engaged in personal training, women's weight training, group exercise classes, learn-to-swim classes, and water aerobics. I challenge myself often to learn new things. Most of all, I like the upbeat, friendly, and enthusiastic staff who are ever ready to support your fitness and health goals.

LOVE Zumba!
The YMCA NIR, Wilmington, NC is a terrific place to exercise and mingle with nice folks. The classes are very well coordinated and the instructors are very professional and knowledgeable. The new equipment is very nice; however they need to consider some equipment to adjust machine levels for shorter people (not a joke). All in all the YMCA meets many of my needs and I always look forward to going. Nice Job!
