Member Testimonials
The wonderful community of diverse people and great classes and instructors. I wish I joined when I moved here 5 1/2 years ago.
It's on my drive to work.
It would be nice if the little ones could receive a reward at the end of their session.
The teachers were fun and engaging. I wish the teacher could have been consistent for the whole session. It felt like starting over each lesson.
Friendly atmosphere and pickleball courts
Great place to work out and feel welcome!
Great instructors. We’re patient with the kids. Encouraged them and always spoke with parents after class about their progress.
Lots of session times to choose from, especially in the evenings.
Pace is the greatest swimming instructor! After two summer sessions, our 6 year-old grandson is a fearless swimmer!
I have been members of gyms all my life, that said, White Rock YMCA is one of my favorites out of all of them.
I love taking classes and there are many individual rooms for all the different classes which means, there are a lot of different classes to choose from *wink* I especially love the 2 different step classes, regular step and Extreme hip-hop step. Step classes are not only good for a cardio workout, they are good for strengthening your cognitive reactions.
In addition there is a large free weight area and circuit area, along with a pool.
I give this Y a 10 out of 10 stars.
Small class sizes; enthusiastic instructors; safe environment; good times

We loved coach Pace! I couldn’t believe how much our 3 yr old learned in Just 2 weeks.

there is great staff at whiterock! everyone is friendly, helpful, and always keeping busy.
The YMCA offers different classes for different ages and abilities. I have been a member for many years and have taken advantage of many activities.
Pretty happy with all the services
My children and I have been treated nicely and have felt welcomed at this location since first day.
First day Rob had a great attitude to welcome us and respond to my questions as to me wanting to get information about classes and membership.
In general, I have seen and experienced that Staff at YMCA WhiteRock has been very nice and attentive to greet us and have helped us in any way they can when we have approached to ask a question at the front desk.
At this location at White rock I have not felt discriminated but I have actually perceived good vibes , a safe environment and feel welcome to come as a family with children and be treated respectfully! Thank you for your hard work and great attitude!
I was clean and well staffed
Friendly staff. Clean facility. Nice equipment
The Iyengar yoga classes
I enjoy the group exercise classes, especially instructor Kristi's weekday morning classes. She gives excellent instructions and carefully plans routines that are challenging but accessible for any/all fitness and coordination levels and goals. She goes the extra mile every day to offer alternative versions of every move/exercise to make more/less challenging. ALWAYS emphasizes proper form for safety and injury prevention in every single class. I'm younger than AOA, but get just as good a workout in her AOA classes because she does such a good job planning a flexible routine and demonstrating higher and lower impact options. Kristi is the reason her classes are packed to capacity ... although other members don't seem to preregister online.
I also love Lisa Ki's Dance Fitness class! Her expertise gives us a unique experience not available from any other instructor or Dallas Y location -- she teaches us a wide variety of dances (sometimes with an interesting dash about the culture it's from). [I've heard a member pressure her to include weights in that day's class, which robs the rest of us of dance time. There are many other weights-focused classes and machines available, so I'd suggest Lisa request a vote by show of hands in each class about whether to do weights that day.]
I'm sure this is not a new request, but there need to be additional hand weights added in the Group 1 and 2 rooms. Students go back and forth 'borrowing' weights from the other room, leaving the next class short and numerous members unable to participate safely/fully with appropriate weight size.
For some reason, within the last 6 months, one of two weights bins was removed from room 1. We need enough in both rooms to accommodate having packed classes who need weights at the same time--which happens every weekday morning. I know impossible to have unlimited # of weights in each, but adding a modest # of hand weights should reduce the migration and shortages that prevent full participation, especially from AOA members who may be more limited in the weight they can use. It's impossible to check for excess weights that might be in the Yoga room when it's in session, so there's a constant back and forth between room 1 and 2...and therefore a constant shortage.
I love Pilates and have enjoyed all instructors at White Rock, Moody & LHighlands, except for Angela P. I've discovered multiple other members have the same negative experience and also avoid her classes to avoid injury or unnecessary soreness. Her routines don't seem properly balanced for opposing muscle groups -- I experienced her spending half the class just doing calves or other single muscle to 'total burnout'. That's too much of one exercise, in my opinion.
THANKS to the entire Y team for all you do in your various roles. You make a great place and experience for White Rock members!

My grand twins age 5.5 years have taken swimming lessons from White Rock YMCA for the past three summers. Their mom Marisa and I shared the duty of getting the twins to the pool.
The first summer they didn't like the experience at first, but the excellent swim instructors were patient and positive. They lured the twins into the water with their fun manner, having a toy to throw in and get into the water with.
The second summer they took two sets of swimming lessons and really learned how to swim. They learned to hold their breath underwater very well.
This summer they worked on learning strokes and kicking skills so they could be more independent and successful in their swimming. Now they are like fish. They love being in the pool and are not afraid in any way.
Thank you for providing excellent swim instructors for young children. It takes a special person to be able to have a patient and encouraging attitude towards children who are afraid of the water.
