Weight room and cardio room
Love the new weight room. The three deadlift platforms/squat racks are great, and the weightlifting area feels spacious and less cramped. Southwest YMCA has the best cardio room out of all YMCAs I've been to. Keep it up. S/O Thavi (SP?). Cool dude!
There’s great variety. And I love my aqua fitness class
There is something for everyone, a large variety of options.
The exercise classes cater to different age and fitness levels. The non exercise activities appear to create community, such as the hiking club. The staff is friendly and helpful.
Classes are great love the body combat and boot camps and friendly staff all around!!
That the pool is open for walking and therapy all morning
I really like the programs that are designed for senior citizens such as body balance, yoga, Zumba Gold and stretch classes.
It also meets the social needs of people.
Love the Les Mills classes and appreciate the efforts to incorporate a variety of activities such as cooking and watercolor
The variety. It’s not just exercise, it’s crafts, book clubs, a group that bought tickets to a theater together. You don’t meet people when you’re exercising because you don’t want to interrupt the instructor. I’ve made some new friends through the other activities. I live alone, so that’s great to get to know new people.
Lots of them
Different time options
all teachers/classes are welcoming and accommodating! When i complained about ppl not following lane rules, the director of the swim program steppedin even though the staff was lax and unclear.
It’s engaging and fun, but the kids also learn and progress. I love it!
I was recently told by a doctor that I have osteoporosis and suggested doing some jump therapy. I would like to see some kind of jump therapy movement class added on to a yoga class or senior fitness as I have not found any place that offers this. I wonder if this might be something that could be added to senior fitness class or an add on after a yoga class.
Great employees and very supportive in activities
Programming is for all ages. Yoga teachers are very experienced and encourage safe practices for those who are over 50! Gym is clean, well staffed and enjoying new coffee area. Would love to see some tea bags!
I love the balance class.
On occasion I have also swam, but I find the slowest lane crowded with wakers.
Many different classes, great instructors, fun atmosphere
Variety of group classes
Kids club
Swimming classes for kids
The workout classes are great!!
I enjoy the friendly staff at check-in, helpfulness, and overall feeling of the entry way. I love the egym, classes, and soon will take an aquatics class.
Great coaches and helpful staff
(1) I highly recommend the dance classes and fantastic instructors -- Aileen, Laila, Emily S, Grace, Luba etc.
(2) Keeping the Cybex Eagles Machines is appreciated as they are friendly to petite people. NW YMCA has retired the Cybex Eagles and the new machines are not friendly to petite people at all.
I have been taking Mr. Jack Liu's Functional Fitness & Balance and Tone & Stretch Plus classes for about 18 months. His programs are all well organized, and he explains which parts of the body we're working on in detail throughout the class. My physical therapist for my left knee is happy with the fact that I am developing some of the crucial muscles. And most of all, I feel much better.
I love the choice of activities. I love the instructors and the positive energy they bring to the classes. I love that you can join at any fitness level and feel welcome at the YMCA. It is non intimidating for someone who has not been working out for a while to join in.
Variety and Availability.
Love it.
The overall environment is very family friendly with something for all of us!
The facility is spacious and has a lot of equipment for members.

I used to go to Northwest in my neighborhood. However, I now go mainly to the Southwest one instead. I specially like everything about this YMCA. The people at the reception, the instructors, the classes, and the pool are all excellent. The facility is clean and very well taken care of. I especially like how everything is set up to make you feel at home, from the cabins in the locker rooms to have privacy and the showers right before entering the pool.
I’ve enjoyed several great classes, such as yoga with a foam roller, where Heather was very welcoming, Emily’s Zumba Gold class, and Ying’s therapeutic yoga, which was also excellent.
One suggestion I have is to please offer some of these classes in the afternoon around 4:30 as well. This week is my break from school, so I can attend the morning classes, but once school resumes, I’ll really miss them if there aren’t later options available.
Thank you for all you do!
