YMCA offers a wide variety of programs and activities for all members of my family. I like that there are activities we can enjoy separately and together.
There are a lot and instructors are great.
Competent teachers of water aerobics who project positive attitudes re efforts to be fit. I also have enjoyed yoga classes. The workout spaces and equipment are clean.

I have started a workout schedule to go into my Y (Central in San Jose) 5 days (T,W,Th,F,Su) a week. I love the open gym for shooting basketball, the availability of equipment for weight lifting and there is always a treadmill for me to work on.
All the folks I've met (staff and fellow members) are friendly. I have been to a few gyms/clubs and I don't like the attitude/machismo I get from them.
It exists and it's nearby. ;)
Swimming: Accessibility, cleanliness, welcoming experience.
I am a swimmer. The pool hours and availability work for me.
The scheduler has done a much better job of notification if the schedule changes.

The Y provides programs and activities for groups as well as individuals. The price is not excessive. The Y's reputation is excellent.
I play handball and the Y is supportive of handball and supports kids taking a class to learn to play. The handball courts are also well maintained.
The staff is also supportive to the needs of its members.
