We were new to Virginia with a special needs child and no idea how things would go. This ended up being a transformative summer for our son. The staff went above and beyond to make us all feel welcome and included and as a result, it was a huge positive growth experience for all of us. Particular thanks to Caitlin and Natalie for their extra efforts to make it a great experience. The time in the pool was wonderful and the special party put together simply because our son loved a book was incredibly thoughtful and beyond our expectations. It was so appreciated. We will be back next summer!
This is the second year that my grandchildren have attended camp thunderbird and they are extremely excited about going each day. They definitely will be back next year.
Our camper had a great time with the variety of activities. Especially archery and fort building!
This was my son's first time going to camp and his personality is very unique and can be a lot. The counselors were nothing but nice and patient with him. They made sure that he didn't burn(true redhead), if he needed time to calm down they came up with a plan, and when he was getting picked on, they made sure they made me aware and told me the process that they were handling it. He is already asking about next year and wants to go all summer! Cannot say enough good things about this camp, the leaders, and the counselors!!!
Excellent variety, beautiful setting, and classic summer camp activities! My child really enjoyed both of his weeks at Thunderbird!

Large variety of outdoor activities, transportation and extended hours are also great for working families
There were so many different activities available for her to keep her day full and I like that everything was outdoor. she love it and we will return next year.
The buses were easy and on time. The first couple of days my son was in a group that wasn’t included him. Once I made the camp aware they moved him to a different group and his experience improved. And when they were made aware that zip lines was a priority they made sure he didn’t miss that even with the switch. He had a great second half.
The counselors, the activities, the environment and the communication was top notch! Looking forward to next year!

My son came home with a new story about how he pushed himself and do something new, some things that were outside his comfort zone. You were able to match him with two of his best friends too. He had a great time. All three want to go back!
Great activities for my kids and the transportation was very easy.
There seemed to be quite a bit of options to pick from which was nice! but the camp needs to include more indoor activities so kids can take a break from the heat.
Feedback: my son‘s counselor did not help him put on sunscreen one particular day and rushed him to the pool. And he did not get any assistance with getting in the shade and overheated a couple of times.
My kids had a great time despite the extreme heat. They came home happy and exhausted each day!

I love the wide variety of activities that my child got to participate in.
I like that this program has been around a very long time. My 11 year old boy has turned more into an outdoor kid thanks to Camp thunderbird.

Variety of activities, convenient pick up and drop off
My 9 year old loves this camp. He has so much fun with the variety of activities offered. He loves the zip line especially.
Great mix of activities, with Jacobite for middle school students who just want to talk and play cards. Great counselors. Our daughter had a great summer!
