For three generations, the South Oakland YMCA has been part of our family. Or have we been part of theirs? :)
Everything about our Y is "best." The classes, the facilities, the people.
I started with an individual membership in the early 1980s, then we upgraded to a family membership as our kids were growing up. Now, I still go to the Y several times a week with my Silver Sneakers membership and my grandchildren take classes. (I guess my kids liked the Y experience too!)
I tried to give a bit back to the Y because they've given us so much. For years (when I was MUCH younger) I served on the Board of Directions. I helped raise money to build the gym and I was a part of the committee that introduced "coed" participation at the Y. I was humbled when, in 1994, the South Oakland YMCA honored me as its "Volunteer of the Year."
The Y has given me, and my family, more than I can ever repay!
The Y is a great fit for our overall family fitness needs. My kids might be getting jobs there as well.

Staff and pool staff …. Are great !
The Staff is very friendly. They are very business like in their signing you in. The Parking
area is excellent. There is some attempt to provide some privacy in the locker room
for men and women but that leaves a bit to be worked on. I have only been there 6 times transferring there while our Pool is having remodeling in Birmingham. It is a very busy
scene.

It's a wonderful spot for exercise either individually, one-on-one or group classes. The hours are convenient. The staff is always ready to assist and the instructors are experts in their respective fields. It's a suitable spot for all ages.
