Member Testimonials
There is such a variety of things to do at the Y. Exercise classes, Aquatics, Enrichment, Community Service, Individual workouts, workouts with trainers, Montessori Kindergarten and on and on.
It's is not too expensive.
Love the warm water pool.
Great offerings for fitness for all with pleasant staff. I am pleased that there are income adjusted membership fees making fitness accessible to many. I love the steam room but the steam generator works inconsistently. Please fix the mechanicals here or get a new system.
Good variety of classes with great teachers. Facilities are well maintained and clean. Could use another pool.
Convenience, friendliness of staff, cleanliness, class availability, machine availability, pools.
I enjoy being able to take several classes, and the very friendly atmosphere at the Y. I also enjoy the steam and sauna room.
You offer a wide variety of group classes that suit my schedule. Thanks!
everything
Friendly staff, access to machines
I like many things about the Y but I am bothered by these surveys. They are set up to ONLY solicit positive comments - marketing. If you are really interested in members, you would also ask for polite suggestions. Many people do not want to stand in the lobby and put a 'complaint' int he box. However, in an online membership survey, ways to improve should be requested.
I love the friendliness of many of the staff. Dave, trainer at Y, is always positive in his comments to members working out and interested in how your workout is going. Susan provides a fantastic member-focused and safe Pilates class.
I do have concerns about the introduction of new equipment and removal of favorite machines. The Kennet Y no longer has a SAFE ab machine. The old ab machines were removed in the fall. I have hurt myself with the new machine which encourages hyperextension of the neck. Y employees agree. The other 'ab' machine with the tubes is ineffective.
Training for new equipment should be readily provided in the weeks - months after introducing them. Member opinions should matter as WE are the ones using them. I no longer have any ab workout because of this.
Ask members opinion before cancelling a program. A favorite Tues/Thurs 7:15 aerobics program led by Betsy Bentner at Kennet Y was replaced by a 'trademark' program several years ago. The 10--12 regular participants in her Aerobics class protested the removal of this program that was run by the Kennett Y since before the Y building was built - when I joined that Y sponsored class at the Unionville middle school gym. The same women got together for >15 years and this class was cancelled. The replacement class did not sustain itself. And you destroyed the friendships of these women!

I like my membership at the YMCA because it fits my needs for getting the exercise I need. I also like the folks that work at the Y. It is just pleasant to come in and see these people on a regular basis. I still cannot say enough about learning to swim. It was an event in my senior years that I didn't think I would ever be able to do The private swim lessons were perfect for me, and Jane Martin was more than perfect in this endeavor. I cannot thank her or the Y enough.
Lots of exercise options. Friends who are members. Great staff
I like your extensive yoga/Pilates program. I just started taking Mon eve Barre. Is there anyway the Y could fit in another evening Barre? Or a weekend class for us day workers?
Also some "quiet area" signs would be appreciated upstairs during classes. Kids are bouncing balls, running and screaming in the halls during classes and it's extremely annoying and disruptive. Thank you.
Great facility. Up to date equipment. New programs to keep the members' interest. Extremely clean. Highly qualified instructors who show a genuine interest in the members. Great community outreach. Friendly and helpful staff. Good communication.
The variety in equipment and programs and the convenient location.
Dedicated therapists, friendliness, camaraderie, good equipment.
The variety of classes offered, cleanliness of the facility and the welcoming staff.
Convenient, clean, friendly
The amount of classes offered and the facilities where classes are held.
We love that our Kennett Y is a multi-cultural community center for people of all ages. Babies through senior citizens come together in the same building to exercise and have fun. The staff is friendly and helpful. The facility is very clean and there are classes and equipment of nearly endless variety. I am someone who never envisioned myself going to a gym. With my husband's encouragement, we joined the Y close to two years ago. I have to say that I joined it practically kicking and screaming. To my surprise, I found I love being a member and going to exercise. It's really pretty funny how it turned out. Now I am the one always talking about the Y and how great it is. I have a close friend in another state who joined a fancy "health club." But she always felt she had to look a certain way, dress a certain way, have the perfect figure, etc. She even had significant cosmetic surgery in order to look better at her health club. At the Y I feel comfortable with who I am. People from all walks of life are there for health and fun. It is a great place to exercise and I have met some interesting people there. The Y is a huge asset to this community.
Very friendly atmosphere...clean
Zumba offered every night
The welcome attitude of everyone. The range of classes for all levels of fitness. The coffee tables and friendships forged after the workout. It is the heartbeat of Kennett!
Many classes and times to choose from. Lovely, clean, cheerful facility.
Beautiful, clean facility, helpful and supportive staff, and a fantastic community spirit. My motto is, "It's always a warm and sunny day at the YMCA!"
First time trying the Kennett branch. I attended Amanda's Sunday morning step class. I've taken her class before at West Chester when she subs and she is the best step instructor around, so I did the 30 minute drive on Sunday morning just so I could attend her class! I wish she taught at West Chester more often or had a regular step class there.
That it is very family friendly. It feels more like a community than a gym. My kids love going and my three year old loves her classes she takes.
Everything - my trainer, the hours, the facilities.
Selection and quality of fitness classes. We have the best instructors.
Clean and lots of machines
