Fast paced and has a little bit of everything!
Great workout. Great staff. Always fun and challenging at the same time.
The change up of the workouts.
Love OTF and staff at San Marcos studio. Everyone is made to feel included in the good health goals of the workouts. Big Shoutout to Calvin for carefully helping with modifications on the weight floor. OTF San Marcos works to help everyone succeed at their level, by monitoring each individaul's progress as they work out on the floor. You have the feeling about the place that OTF is there to make each and everyone of us successful. GO San Marcos OTF.
Our Coach was amazing and very supportive. The others in the class were also very supportive. I did not feel self-conscious.
It's such a positive environment and the coaches truly care about your fitness and how successful you are each visit. I appreciate how they will automatically modify a routine if nexessary. I enjoy the music and how you find you push yourself a little harder each time to achieve your best result.
Intensity and change of pace from my normal workouts
Changes and challenges you!
Great coaches who support and encourage and make it fun!
WORKOUTS - I recommend OTF to everyone I know because the workouts are challenging, adaptable to any fitness level and/or any minor injuries, and diverse enough so that I never feel bored.
MUELLER STUDIO - I LOVE the Mueller studio and team!!! The front desk staff are always friendly and helpful. I have greatly appreciated the special events, changing monthly themes, and social media presence. Please keep all of this going as this adds even more to my fitness experience! Also will say I appreciate the other clients. Everyone is generally friendly and it actually feels like a really welcoming place. I know the studio does not control who joins and attends classes, but you DO drive the culture and I appreciate how intentional you have been to make it a great place to come. As the studio continues to grow, you will just have to ensure you continue to support the positive culture!
TRAINERS - Mueller has some of the best trainers in town! If I could go to all of the classes all of the time I would! Special shout-out to Joey, Ashley, Malcolm, and Leslie for the different and awesome training approaches! I also just took a class with Hannah (not sure if she was subbing or is here permanently) and she was fantastic as well!
My main piece of constructive feedback would be to Berto. First of all, Berto is a true delight and sorry to all of the trainers, but Berto's music is the BEST (I would put the fire emojis, but I'm on a computer). These are a few practices that may be worth coaching him on:
1) Concise Communication / Key Points - So after going to a few of Berto's classes, I think his main challenge is around communication. He can ramble at times and have the key information get lost. This is especially challenging for a sweating and tired participant as my listening skills are greatly diminished in the middle of a workout and do not have a ton of mental capacity to find the critical information myself. My suggested action for Berto would be think through his key points and work backwards to figure out HOW he is going to share it. So instead of just talking and finding his way to the important information, he shares it with a plan in mind. He could practice this skill by writing out a few of his weight room or rower introductions, practice them before class, and then present. He could then reflect on what worked well with those intros and what didn't. YES, this would be a more time intensive process for him, but I think it would be worth him trying it out for even a short period of time as he naturally learns how to do this on his own.
2) Class Introductions - This is also wrapped into concise communications, but specifically calling out that sometimes his class introductions include information that we do not need to hear until we get INTO class. An example would be getting into too much detail about of how we will be doing an exercise in the weight room or the exact format for the runs. Given his overall work on communications, I think an action he could practice would be just previewing if it is an ESP day/switch day/inclines and then getting people in the door.
3) Transition Timing - This is minor, but seems like it can be an easy fix. I find that Berto will call out transitioning from an All Out to a Walk at an awkward time so he counts down 3-2-1 over the course of five or six seconds. There can also be long gaps between him calling out "getting ready" to run and then actually getting us to go. To be fair, there is A LOT going on during our classes and I am sure I would not be able to keep time for 3G classes myself, but this is something that definitely impacts my experience as a participant in class. I know Ashley is ON TOP OF TIMING in all of her classes so if she is able to share her best practices with Berto, I think that could be helpful!
4) Challenging the Class / Individuals - I know Joey had mentioned Berto came to Mueller from a slower-paced studio with a different demographic makeup, so this may just be part of his adjustment to a younger/more active studio. While I appreciate Berto calling out us listening to our bodies and not over-doing it, I feel like he could ask us to challenge ourselves more and not encourage us to rest as much. I think the rest of the Mueller trainers are great about gently pushing us while also listening to what our bodies need and Berto could do this a little more as well!
I will say, all of the above seem to have improved a bit since he started at Mueller, so if he is already receiving some coaching/feedback and implementing these changes, awesome! These are just things that have stuck out to me and I know we all want Berto to be the best coach he can be for himself and OTF!
OK! That was a lot of information. Thanks for reading and I am always happy to connect in person if anyone at Mueller has any questions. Appreciate all you do to provide an incredible service to us!
