I feel like I belong to a real community at Lakewood YMCA. From my very first class, the front desk, other members and instructor greeted me with open arms and wanted me to come back. It’s nice to be remembered and appreciated when entering a space of health and wellness.
The only reason I come to the Lakewood Y is for Nancy Sawaya's class. She has created a real community in her class, and I will follow her wherever she goes.
I really like the Cadio and Step classes giving by Nancy Sawaya.
Feels like a community space, close to a lot in the neighborhood
The quick checkin plus the friendly staff members
Friendly staff, and clean facility
I love to work out and it has been a part of my life since I was very young. The main thing about Lakewood is the staff and the folks who visit the Y. It is a welcoming place where I am greeted by my first name. I interact during my workout with people I call friends. To say the least there is quite a bit of fun/teasing banter that goes on at Lakewood.
Also, I do visit both downtown y’s occasionally. And recently while working out at the Y near the ballpark I hear my name. It was Shirley whom I have not seen since before covid. It really was nice to catch up with Shirley.
You see the Durham Y’s are Awesome and the reason is the staff and participants. Happy New Year!
Front desk staff is engaging and watchful over who is coming and going. I typically take yoga on mon evening and Sam the teacher is welcoming and great at teaching -- not to mention yoga.
BUT, The racketball clatter inextricably to yoga practice is jarring. Seems odd that Lakewood Y has not taken action to ameliorate.
Employees are very welcoming!
Great atmosphere at the Lakewood Y. Feeling of community.
Would be great for expensive machines with video to be maintained so they consistently have connectivity cable programming.
Clean. Great choices in equipment
Close to my home and I really enjoy the exercise class by Nancy S.
Clean, a good assortment of weights and machines, great people, convenient location and rarely very crowded.
I like
Instructors are knowledgeable and staff is very helpful.
Love the YMCA classes (teacher Ellie T) and others. My only concern is that parking at the Lakewood Y can be near impossible when a school or sports event is going on. Though you have it posted as member parking only, there is no "monitoring" of this during a school event that draws attendance. I've had numerous occasions where it took 15-20 minutes to park and ultimately gave up and missed an evening class once.
. Staff are professional and accommodating.
. Facility is very clean.
. Machines always operable.
. Women's locker room has large mirrors, large
bathroom stalls, smells clean and fresh.
. Facility has bright but not harsh lighting.
. Outside run/walk track can be used when
children are in class.
. Good music
Range of equipment. Spacious locker rooms
Excellent teachers!
Thewas a great size and had a lot of different exercise machines, weight equipment and free weights. Also, the ceilings were high so I worried less about getting COVID.
The facility is well-equipped, clean, and I rarely have to wait for the equipment I want.
Everything
Table tennis has become a very popular sport among older males. At Lakewood, there is a growing group of players. A couple of the staff are supporting increased participation. They are good teachers and encourage new players to learn the sport.
I am confident if the Y were to sponsor clinics or tournaments, there would be an increase in membership and active participation. Right now, it is not easy to arrange for games. Some type of ladder would facilitate members finding games for opponents to play.
The only places where one can go to play is in Morrisville or Chapel Hill. It would be great if Lakewood Y could fill this void.
It's a family for the most part. I could just come and talk to all the folks I know. I do not need to exercise my mouth, I need to stay on my physical goal. The mouth works by osmosis! I think the why should have someone motivating all the folks who hang on their phone and clog the momentum.
Helpful riendly staff, Ellie's class, location, equipment, locker room. All the Durham Ys look like Durham, it's a force for building community.
So I consider myself a member of Durham YMCA and go to all of the Durham branches-not sure why they call me a Lakewood Y member.
I like group fitness classes. especially Nancy's class (which I wish was longer), boot camp with Ashley and Lenae's Thursday am Zumba. The staff at the desk are always nice and helpful, especially Shawn (SP?) and the guy with the shaved head.
The staff are wonderful and welcoming, the facilities clean and the childcare staff are so kind and generous with our child. Thank you!
The great location, the helpful staff, the easy-going members, the excellent and expansive equipment, the convenient and appropriate hours, the updated facility, the ample parking, and the community involvement.
I love the people who work here. The whole vibe at Lakewood is so welcoming that i choose going there over the downtown YMCA even though they have some other equipment that i perfer. Lakewood is a gym i look forward to going too.
