I love the Downtown Durham YMCA except for two things: the parking -frustrating; and the lack of space for classes, especially the body pump class. I doubt there is much you can do about the parking, but I've stopped going to the Sunday afternoon body pump class because it is too crowded. People are jammed in there and I'm afraid I'm going to stumble over someone's equipment. Also, there isn't enough equipment. Despite the instructor being awesome, I started going to the NE Cary Y because there is much more room for classes and way more parking, plus, since I live in South Durham, it's just as close.
Front desk staff are always welcoming and kind. Teachers are amazing. Mr. TJ and Ms. Maria never fail to greet me with a cheery good morning. Other Y members are supportive and a strong community.
Class was fantastic! (Clayton)
Front desk person stood up to say hello and greeted with a smile
easy parking
Yoga Classes; Gero fit program, steam room!
Zumba and line dance. I wish there were more of them during the morning hours.
I love the Y! I REALLY would love to see one of the Durham locations try a 24/7 model with a keycard entry system and staffed only during the day.
I love the YMCA, has a lot of programs and activities to do, there are some things that are not being repaired anymore like my favorite steam room, but I understand the reason as the new building is coming up. I will continue to enjoy the Downtown location for now and looking forward to the new building that's coming.
The staff is great! Friendly and always willing to help.

The staff is friendly and helpful. The facility is well maintained and welcoming.
The main challenge is there is not enough parking in the lot for all the folks who use this location.

Friendship
It is a wonderful atmosphere and I have some good buddies who encourage me.
Other:
I wish the TVs in front of the treadmills offered HGTV, cooking and news, not too much sports.
And all of us older folks are sorry the table and four chairs were removed from the workout area. We enjoyed that space after working out.
Overall, I love the Y and the staff and my workout buddies.
