Having the new Chatham YMCA facility in Pittsboro has been truly transformative. Before it opened, there weren’t many options for accessible fitness programs or family-friendly activities—especially for larger groups of 20 people in classes, access to a pool, or the latest sports equipment. Now, the YMCA has become a welcoming space where people of all ages can come together to prioritize health, wellness, and community. (I really appreciate places that bring people together!)
Personally, I enjoy how the facility offers something for everyone—from group exercise classes to youth programs and even spaces to simply connect with neighbors. It’s not just about staying active; it’s about building relationships and fostering a sense of belonging. Before, I had to travel 30 minutes to the YMCA in Cary or Chapel Hill just to swim, but now it’s only five minutes from my house!
I’ve already seen how the YMCA is making a difference—bringing people together, encouraging healthier lifestyles, and offering resources we didn’t have before. It’s exciting to be part of a community that values well-being and diversity, and I’m so grateful to have this incredible resource right here in our Pittsboro lovely town. Lisbeth Tengono Hickey
I like the new workout facility at the Y and the fact that its so convenient to my home ( only 7 miles away)

beautiful facility and helpful staff. Could use more cardio equipment, very crowded last Saturday. Some wait time for treadmill and few bikes.

We visited the new Chatham Park facility this morning during the "soft" opening. On the way there, my youngest daughter (age five) verbalized that she was nervous about being in a different building. Once she and my older daughter stepped into the new Kidzone area, their worries melted away and they were particularly excited about the Foosball table, air hockey table, and the outdoor playground. My older daughter shared that she especially loved the electronic play section of the playground where two players compete by pressing buttons as they light up. I had hoped to see a wider array of equipment at the new facility and was not disappointed. I was pleased to see stair climbing machines, ropes, and a tire. I've been a member for years and have always appreciated the friendliness/responsiveness of the staff. I will miss the "cozy" feeling and the history behind the old building, but I look forward to seeing the Y continue to foster a sense of community and keep pace with our growing neighborhoods.
