I love the options of classes that are offered. I live in Puyallup and prefer the Sumner Y over the one closest to my home.
I love everything about this gym. It has been a great experience overall for me and my family. That being said I have a negative experience that needs to be shared. I have never written a negative review in my life but this was called for. Even several bystanders, including another instructor, that told me to write a complaint. This is only about one specific instructor. We had a toddler swim class with “Mrs Eileen”, and older woman who was our class instructor. From the moment the class began she got up in my 1 year old face and made him cry. He normally loves swim lessons. She was splashing him in the face even though he doesn’t like it. He would stop crying once she left him alone and then she would come back and get in his face (literally a few inches away) and he would start screaming again. She got mad at my husband when he said he wouldn’t dunk him under the water because it makes him upset and he’s just not ready for it yet. We go up to his chin, and other instructors have been fine with this. At the end of class he was crying and I took him away to console and play with him to try and calm him down. She came up behind me and grabbed me by the shoulder, got in my face (again a few inches away) and told me “the worst thing I can do as a parent is to console him like that”. I kindly Told her that “crying it out” is not my parenting style and I didn’t appreciate her telling me how to parent my crying baby. This interaction deeply upset me and she wouldn’t let it go, stating she’s been teaching swim for X years and she knows best, etc. Once she finally left another mom came over to me and told me that she scared her son as well and did the same things to her at a different lesson. Again, I am not one to usually complain but I truly do not think this instructor should be teaching infant swim lessons. She may be fine with older kids, but not young toddlers who are just getting comfortable in the water. Children need to be comfortable and not traumatized by the water. I am a pediatric nurse and mother, and know how to work with children and this woman is not appropriately treating a 1 year old. It really saddens me to have this experience and because of it we will be pulling my son out of his swim class, and hopefully we will have a different instructor for the next set of sessions. Again, besides “Mrs Eileen” I have nothing but good comments for the YMCA, All of the classes we have done and the other instructors we have met have been phenominal.
The staff are friendly and helpful. How clean the facility is kept. Ii enjoy the different swim exercises classes offered . I like 4/5 of the instructor’s due to the great overall workout an are easy to hear and follow.. I do not attend the Thursday am swim exercise class because the instructor is a nice lady but hard to follow or hear a not as physical workout as the other class. I actually attend the YMCA in Pyullup which is closer to my home because they have good instructor !
I like the diverse amount of exercise classes that are available. I enjoy the lighthearted and welcoming greetings I get from the staff every time I come in to the YMCA.
The walking track, kids programs, group classes
Friendly staff and nice place
Its clean, the staff if friendly/helpful/the price is right and you have enough equipment to go around.
Everything! The friendliness the size the different classes. It’s got it all!
The Gordon YMCA facility is clean, convenient and really love all that it has to offer. I would like to make a suggestion, we have had cardio equipment in need of repair and I noticed that the facility removed the equipment which gives less equipment available, is there a reason the Espresso bikes would be taken away? It would be great to have more options. I appreciate your listening and hope that they will consider working on this to improve! Thank you again for a great facility!
I love all the natural light that comes in through the windows! The Gordon Y is very clean. Everyday I see workers cleaning and greeting people. My kids love the pool, my husband loves the sauna, and I love the newer weight lifting area downstairs.
I would love for the Y to bring back advanced skilled rock climbing instructors and route setters to allow for improved utilization of the climbing wall and to serve intermediate and advanced climbers. I miss the community and connections that can be made with other climbers pushing and encouraging each other to try harder routes and improve their skills.
Thank you for all the Y offers! Our family enjoys having a beautiful space to work out!
I love how friendly and helpful the staff are with my family.
The staff is friendly, responsible, creative and makes the camp safe and fun for the kids. Pool day is my granddaughters favorite day of the week but she also loves the games and crafts - she is 6.
My daughter loves it
It provides the facilities that I need and is convenient
When I think of the Gordon YMCA, I think of the amazing instructors that bring so much dedication and creativity to their classes. Our group exercise instructors go out of their way to create a community within their classes. Without the group exercise classes, there wouldn’t be much keeping me from going to a less expensive gym. Id love to see the YMCA do more to show the instructors how valuable they are and make sure they are compensated fairly for all that goes into creating their classes.
I love everything about it, mostly the staff, they all are very nice especially my daughter’s counselor, Tatum and the soccer instructor, Blake. My daughter loves the camp and YMCA so much! Thank you all the staff for being so nice and make my daughter more confidence and learn a lot!
I like the classes geared towards seniors - low impact classes.

The leaders are fantastic and take the time to get to know our kiddos! Our 3 year old has a blast learning along side other kiddos.
Love Y day camp!
We have been participating in the Y Summer Camp since 2021, and we have seen it grow, expand, processes improve, structures changing for the kids (tents this summer for each group), staffing training, etc. It really has been a great program for our children, helping them build lasting bonds through kids in the community and stay active and engaged through the summer. My ONLY suggestion from this summer's camp ... the kids are FILTHY when they get home, maybe some more than others. I feel like a lot of that comes from the area where they spend most of their days. As a parent, I love that they are outside, but the dry, dusty area does make for some maintenance when the kiddos get home. Backpacks and lunch boxes need washing regularly, and they def don't wear any nice clothes. It'd be great if between summers, the Y could look at how they can make that outside area a bit more ... clean? Maintained? I'm not sure of the answer, but I wanted to share my ONLY area of improvement from this summer. I will admit that I've heard similar comments from other mothers who have used the Y Summer Camp.
kids have fun, lots of activities

Best place ever
