Staff!!
Susan and Dani were amazing at getting us signed up! Very helpful and kind!
The pool looks oh so clean and orderly since the annual maintenance! Keep up the great work!
I hate the new bikes!
The staff are nice. The facility in general is great. Like the setup of weights. Do wish there was another basketball court as the main court is often used for other things, or more people show up and have to wait. Would attract more members. Do wish items that get left are kept a little longer. I had towel and shirt left for less than a week. No trace. Shower area could be a little bigger. Find people a little close for comfort. Often have to step over people to get to my space or locker.
Hello Tom Taylor Family YMCA Team,
We’ve had a very positive experience with the aquatics staff and the YMCA overall, and I’m grateful you offer adaptive programming. I’m writing because the new association-wide changes to Adaptive Swim (starting Winter 1) unintentionally exclude my child and likely other families.
My son is 4.5 years old and has a physical disability. The previous adaptive swim setup (membership + five-week adaptive program with 1:1 instructor attention) was a rare, accessible fit for his needs and safety. Under the new structure, the 1:1 option is moved into private lessons with substantially higher cost ($168/5 weeks) and must be scheduled outside group lesson times with blackout periods (4–7pm Mon–Thurs and 9am–12pm Sat). Those blackout windows effectively remove the only realistic times we can attend: he is in school until 3:30pm and has a medically important routine with bedtime around 7:30pm, so late evening options aren’t feasible. Saturdays before noon are also now excluded.
I’m also concerned that the group format (5–12 participants per instructor, caregiver required in the water) may create additional barriers for families where a parent/caregiver cannot be in the water or where the swimmer’s needs require consistent individualized instruction for safety and progress.
I’m asking the YMCA to reconsider these policies or add an exception pathway so adaptive swimmers aren’t scheduled out of access. A few workable solutions could be:
Allow limited adaptive private lesson slots during part of the 4–7pm window (even one lane, one day per week), or
Provide a small number of 1:1 adaptive slots embedded within group lesson blocks for swimmers who require individualized instruction, and/or
Create a documented exception process for families whose disability + school/bedtime constraints make the current schedule inaccessible.
We want to continue at Tom Taylor, but as written this change effectively removes access for our child. Please let me know who I can speak with (branch leadership and/or the association team) to work toward a solution that aligns with the YMCA’s inclusion mission.
Thank you.
Clean, Friendly, Family-oriented environment. Equipment are top notch. And the crew at Child Watch is amazing!
Freindly, clean and helpful
The perfect-for me-gentle yoga class (Cassiana). A wonderful place to meet great people and make friends. A wonderful facility.
A little over a year ago we moved from Port Orchard to Gig Harbor. One of the first things my husband did was join the Y. He loved the fitness programs, equipment, etc. Sadly he died this past April. I have a neighbor who asked me to join her at the Y for Bingo. I joined and have been going to Bingo for the past few weeks. I can see why my husband enjoyed going there. It is clean and organized and very busy. I highly recommend this Y to anyone interested in sports, keeping fit, or just having fun like I am with Bingo.
Clean, friendly, updated and new equipment.
Variety of classes offered, friendly staff, I meet great people
for me I liked the old equipment
I am so grateful for the Y here in Gig Harbor. The staff is the highlight. I also appreciate the cleanliness, and the availability of the exercise machines.
General facilities available, especially a dedicated handball court. Friendliness and helpfulness of all staff--desk, office, the ones who keep the place clean and supplied. Classes available.
Love the variety of classes and options for workout
-need to do better at texts alerts if the pools are closed I’ve gone many times for myself lap swimming, or a recreational pool with my kids and the pool has been closed. There may be a sign at the front desk, but that’s a little late when you’ve already made plans and traveled there with your swimsuit and not other workout equipment.
-would like to see a daytime morning 30 minutes stretch clinic class
-love all the adult education options keep it coming!
This place is huge. It offers unique experiences for all ages. It's a great way to exercise and have a connection with the community. The staff was friendly and helpful!
The pool is so sparkling clean now. It is so nice to have the new lane dividers. The Y had really made good use of the last ones since they had been there since the Y opened in 2007.
The new cardio equipment is super nice to use. People were appreciative to the staff members who were there to help member figure out the new machines.
An unexpected addition to the exercise classes are the new set of weights. It is wonderful to not have to track down the size of weights we want.
It would be nice if we could have music in the pool area in the early mornings.
The water classes and the friendships!

Equipment is in good condition, the place is very clean and the staff is very helpful
