Really a big fan of the facility and staff, very excited for new renovations. Only downside are the large groups of highschoolers who just hang out in the gym, clearly only there to socialize and disturb others. Would be nice if staff did something about this.
Water Fitness, Pilates, and Gentle Yoga are all programs that help me heal after hip surgery as well as being fun to do.
The instructors are all very knowledgeable and supportive and friendly.
Instructor s are very good - they make the classes a lot of fun and give us motivation to keep going.
Good mix of classes; however, some are just offered at times during the day which those who work cannot participate in.

Great trainers and class selections. Only down side is fitness center space which is in process of being improved, and size of pool.

I was member several years ago and so much has improved since then. The classes and instructors are really fantastic. The quality of the music and the ability to register for the classes ahead of time (but not too far in advance) is huge. I also love the App.
I don't use the gym much but I like knowing that I can if/when I want. I have done "Weights with Mike" and I love that he is there for support - the machines can be intimidating. The Melrose Y has been easy to incorporate fitness and self care into my weekly routine. :-)
I enjoy the aquatic facilities: swimming and water fitness.
Me and my family love the Melrose YMCA and coach Alex is amazing my kids favorite part of going to the YMCA is seeing him we refuse to go anywhere else .
The zumba classes and the ballroom line dancing class are my favorites.

I only use the workout space and I'm looking forward to the completion of renovation. The only issue I have is that people scroll on their phones for a long time while sitting on exercise equipment and the staff never intervene. Clients have to do it themselves and it's awkward. There's one sign asking people not to do it, but since this isn't enforced, it makes no difference. I don't see why people have to have their phones at all with them while working out. But, that doesn't matter. What matters is that they can't stop looking at them while others are waiting to use the equipment.

The Livestrong program is wonderful & supportive. The pool is always at a comfortable temperature.
The staff are some of the friendliest people that I have ever met. The growth of the facilities is coming along great and can’t wait to utilize the new areas.
Thoroughly enjoyed the senior aerobics classes I took on Fridays. Wish I could have joined on Tuesday and Thursday as well, but I work in Cambridge those days. The Friday classes gave me a welcome break to my workday and was the highlight of my week! Fran is awesome-sauce!
