My family loves the YMCA, and we recommend it to everyone, especially families! The new EGYM equipment, fitness classes, and welcoming community atmosphere are fantastic. Our kids really enjoy the child watch area, and it gives us peace of mind knowing they’re safe while we work out. The main reasons we joined were the child watch program and swim classes for kids, and both have been excellent. Overall, we’ve had a wonderful experience at the South Oakland YMCA!
This Y is a lovely place, very welcoming, clean and bright.
The staff at the desk are friendly and welcome people with a smile.
The yoga instructor is fantastic.
The water aerobics instructor for the morning sessions (who is 85 years young!) does a fair job for that age.
The changing rooms are fresh and clean.
A great pool and great people. I like it as it is handicapped accessible. No steps until you enter the pool A plus is the chair lift if you need it.

I enjoy taking classes at the Y. The instructors are friendly and helpful. I also like using the new EGYM equipment. They motivate me to keep using them.

But there is a problem with people going through the circuit in the wrong direction and also sitting on a machine for multiple sets causing backups
Very family oriented, they communicate very well the staff very friendly and equipment clean and new along with fun group classes!
I love the new machines with eGym. Easy to assess where I am and what I need to work on.
Easy to enroll, close to my house, offer a variety of healthcare options - classes, pool, gym, exercise equipment and free weights. Just normal people trying to get some exercise.
The kindness of the associates, the cleanliness of the facility, and the diversity of the clientele all contribute to a welcoming environment. It’s so much friendlier than any big box gym chain I’ve ever attended. I especially appreciate the time Kenny took to orient me on the e-gym equipment and provide encouragement as I begin working toward a new goal. Excited to be back at the Y!
I love everything about it. The classes offered for seniors are life changing, I know they've greatly increased my mobility. I have met some great new friends there too. The staff are all welcoming, helpful and friendly. I love the new upgraded workout equipment and program that goes with them. The Y offers something for everyone of all ages, toddlers to seniors.
I enjoy meeting new people and I love the equipment; It's everything I need for my workout, and the staff is pretty dam nice also.
It's all good, staff, members and equipment. The camaraderie is great. Made quite a few friends.

I've been a member of the South Oakland YMCA for almost 30 years - I'm there almost every morning. Its like having a second family - everyone is friendly, the new EGym equipment adds to the experience. I've taken classes - its part of my every day routine. When COVID hit and we had to take a break, I truly missed it. I was back as soon as the Y was open to the public again. Now if we could just make the pool a few degrees warmer (:)), life would be perfect.
