My kids have been enthusiastic swimmers - as long as they are securely snapped into a life jacket. After just 3 swim lessons at the YMCA (with "Mr. Sam" they called him), they are both confident to get in 3-4 foot deep water without the support of a life jacket. Their fear of water on their faces has vanished. They are on their way to learning how to be safe, confident swimmers, and I am thrilled to see this change!
Instructors were/are amazing.
It's been great for our son in a nice pool and good teacher to student ratios.
Clean, great schedule, friendly staff and instructors!
Love the experienced instructors and focus on proper swim technique.
We absolutely love Miss Maggie! She has taught my son so much and it has been incredible to watch his progress throughout her classes. She deserves recognition for the incredible job she does.
Great program
Jill and her team run a high quality program. My girls have been swimming here since they were a year old and are strong, confident swimmers, who love the water. I recommend the Y to anyone looking for lessons.
Good staff, instructors are super cool
We like the small class size
Great instructors and staff
Coach Maggie was an amazing coach and wonderful with the kids. She was engaged and made sure the kids stayed focused! We really enjoyed her!
The patience and guidance of the instructors with the parents and kids.
Very good instructors with small children. Easy registration.
Our swim coach Ms Elyse at the Carls Family YMCA was the best teacher. They had smaller classes for the pre-schoolers and all the coaches were very positive and outgoing.
The instructors are great with the kids, very accommodating when they have “a moment” and hugely supportive of their swim development - I can not recommend the Y swim lessons highly enough.
The teachers are wonderful and the ratio in the preschool class is a wonderful one to three!
The teacher Mr. Dennis is great with kids and encourages them to swim and enjoy learning how to swim.
We love both instructors that we've had so far -- Miss Alyssa and Miss Maggie. They are knowledgeable, friendly, welcoming and make learning so enjoyable for our daughter.
We have been through multiple swim sessions now with our son, and I really really appreciate the instructors being gentle with him discipline-wise but still persistent in asking him to improve certain skills. Dennis, Linda, Elise were all great. We will enroll for next session as well.
Personalized instruction. Kind, encouraging, skilled instructors. The turtle shells used.
Miss Alece was so warm. She really made our daughter feel comfortable starting out. It was clear that she made the kids feel safe and made stage 1 a fun and positive experience that our daughter looked forward to every week.
Miss Maggie has been amazing in stage 2. She meets the kids where they are at and instructs them in a way that they can understand. She is kind and direct. We have loved watching our daughter progress in a meaningful way each and every week. It is clear that the instructors here are very skilled and enjoy what they do. We couldn’t be happier with our experience.
Love it!
We adore the Carls Family summer day camp program! Mr. Andy and the counselors do such a wonderful job of creating a fun and safe environment. Our kids can't wait to go back every year!

Friendly atmosphere. The y offers many classes and activities that aren’t available in other nearby facilities. I’m impressed by the offerings that are benefiting to the community as a whole.

We really enjoyed our swimming lesson experience at YMCA in Milford. My son learned a lot and his teacher Ms Maggie was excellent with the kids! She gave us feedback and things to work on and things he excelled in with lessons so I understood his abilities throughout.
I did have one issue one day in which I had to bring my toddler with me during the lessons and he was attempting to wander off many times, however I was always holding his hand or a few inches away following him. He would not have fallen in the pool and if he did, I would be within an arms reach and jump in get him, but this wasn’t the case. A teenage lifeguard who spent the lesson staring at him, rolling her eyes, and shaking her head suddenly yelled from across the pool “MAAM, WATCH YOUR KID!” She continued to roll her eyes and shake her head at me for the remainder of the lesson. I was absolutely shocked at her attitude and unprofessionalism. I did not appreciate being yelled at in front of other parents, teachers, and children present. She could have easily walked over and kindly stated that he should be seated instead of screaming and attempting to shame me while I was watching my 6 year old swim and manage a 2 year old. I thought to report this to the club manager immediately, but did not want her to get into too much trouble and hoped she would learn from it. I say this now months later for managers to consider this situation while training lifeguards to handle things professionally and maturely.
I did not sign up for another session of lessons after this incident, I think it’s better to take a break and return when I feel comfortable.
