They are pretty good at sticking to the rules. I am a swimmer and sometimes there are those who expect to have their own lane. The guards are decent at keeping the two per lane model now.
While I am aware the facility is aging, I am in hopes that the Detroit YMCA group keeps it up to par. There was recently a major pump? issue with the pool that had it unavailable for over two weeks. I was there when the facility was built, so I know how old it is. Hoping that there is a projected annual plan to continually maintain and upgrade mechanicals so that we don't experience that type of issue in the future.

Open pickle ball is a great winter activity for me.
I like the number and types of equipment available. The Y is open long enough to serve my needs. And I like the group activity options. I sometimes wish there were more group classes and times as they frequently are filled long before the sessions begin.

The classes first older adults are excellent . The staff members are very knowledgeable and helpful.

the lifeguards are amazing. they are always so friendly and welcoming. i support the mission of the YMCA and i am so hopeful that the Birmingham Y will survive. You should invite the editor of Downtown magazine to actually visit the Birmingham Y and see the diversity of people who are served by the YMCA. his recent editorial was quite damaging and shows no understanding of the value of the facility to the whole area- no just birmingham...the Y is a vital member of the whole region... good luck!
